Number of shaves with a disposable razor

I use the Schick Intuition so I have to change out blades once the soap wears down to nothing (after 2 uses, if I’m lucky). It seems that the blades get clogged up really easily too, but my hair grows fast and I don’t shave every single day.

Damned if I know; I change my Gillette Silver Blues roughly 4-5 shaves after putting them on the razor.

I’m just saying that until I started using DE blades, I used to not change my disposable razors but maybe every couple of weeks; I actively disliked the first 3-4 days until they dulled down a little bit, and then they were good for about 10 days, until they started pulling hairs and scraping me.

Now that I use DE razors and have gotten used to that particular technique (a lot less downward pressure, primarily), I tend to change both around the 4 shave mark- the sharpness until then is desired, not disliked.

I shave my face and head… so I can generally only get about two shaves of each with a disposable.

I use Schick Hydro5 blades. Currently at about 4 weeks of daily shaves. I do rinse the blade after use but don’t dry it other than a shake or tap on the basin after rinsing.

If drying the blades after shaving is critical, has anyone used a spray of WD40 after shaving? Might be the ticket.

You are wrong. Blades absolutely dull with usage.

Anyone who wants to keep a razor sharp can just buy a decent straight razor. They’ll stay sharp for a looooong time properly stropped, and occasionally paying a couple of bucks for a professional sharpening will keep a razor in service for decades.

Or you can do the lazy thing and buy a double edged safety razor. If you need moisturizing strips your lather is either insufficiently applied or improperly selected. Blades are cheap enough that you can replace them every shave and not notice the cost.

other factors:

do you have a water softener? or water rich in iron?

do you dry it ASAP after use?

do you hot soak your face first, to soften the whiskers?

use a gel?

also, I suspect the color of your hair factors in as well, since the diameter of red, blonde, brunette and black hairs vary.

If you have acne, I suspect the raised craters will dull the blade.
