Actually there is documentation. In this case it’s even worse.

Worse?

The interviewee was talkng about “male patient that’s trying to get fresh.”

Fifty years after that nurse’s experience (1957 if I am reading the article right) we call that sexual assault. Which is not the casual whacking of an erection during a routine examination (or as a standard procedure in a ward).

True enough. I merely meant the ruler is worse than a mere finger.

However, “randy” is open to interpretation. It’s quite conceivable that many back then would consider an erection to be “getting a bit Randy” in itself. Times were different and from the attitudes it seems very likely.

My sister is actually a nurse so my goal isn’t to disparage nurses at all. But I think all the anecdotal accounts as well as documentation like this show it probably isn’t a mere urban legend. I seriously doubt it is done much today.

Found it. I was watching a rerun of the 40 year old virgin, and when Andy calls the viagra helpline for priapism, the person on the phone advises him to flick his penis/testicles until they hurt.
