Nut With Gun at Town Hall

A fascist would take your toys away from you. I just think you look silly.

As long as you don’t mind the giggles and don’t shoot anyone except yourself, I think we can co-exist just fine.

Lemme guess: scared of your own shadow are you?

Actually, I’d disagree with you about open carry and a town hall meeting, as well as grocery stores, etcetera. Two reasons.

First, in states with open carry, there’s a movement to open carry everywhere, to get people used to the idea of seeing guns. As a rule of thumb, I’d agree with that idea.

Secondly, in concealed carry states, I honestly don’t have a problem. Safer than leaving it in the car. Generally, people spend their entire day carrying the gun. Taking it off just to visit the grocery store doesn’t really make sense.

That said, it really shouldn’t be somewhere where it’ll fall out when you sit down. Sam Browne, people. Wearing it on your hip looks snazzy, but it just gets in the way.

And I can think of a couple churches I wish someone had been carrying in, over the last year. You know?

That said, if you’re going somewhere to protest, you’re going somewhere to make a statement. And your gun just became part of the statement. If you’re carrying a sign that talks about watering the tree of liberty, your gun is certainly involved here. And doing it to the President is effing disrespectful. And stupid. If you’re going somewhere to make a stink, prepare yourself. Cell phone, lawyer’s number, family numbers, no weapons, some bottled water, some bandannas, printout of applicable laws, etcetera. Cause if the cops come after you, you don’t want to give them an excuse. Cause they will take it.

Someone was.

No, someone was entering with a weapon to kill someone. That’s a bit different than carrying a weapon as part of their daily routine.

Would he have used a gun because the cops were there? That’s what kept Ruby from shooting Oswald. That kept Squeaky From from from using her gun too. As always the fact they knew the place was crawling with armed pros is what kept them from acting.

This.

I belong to a group that promotes open carry in Ohio. We regularly meet at restaurants and festivals, and occasionally have an open carry walk/demonstration. Our goal is to “get the word out” that open carry is not illegal in Ohio, and that “a right unexercised is a right lost.”

There are thousands of folks across the US who regularly open carry. Here’s proof. It’s a relatively new movement, and growing every year.

Oh, happy day.

Great. Bring back horses and injuns too.

I guess we can quit metal detection at schools, courts and airplanes. We know our gun lovers are carrying to make America safe. Their right to walk around with guns is paramount.

Lord, I wish we fucking would!
Up until 9/11 I used to carry a little pocketknife on my keyring. It was handy for all sorts of random stuff. After Bush’s great push for national paranoia, it became more trouble than it’s worth to carry such a useful tool.

Lord, I wish we fucking would!

“We’re here, we fear, get used to it.”

So, you’re saying a gun’s not the only way to compensate?

Colt Long-barrel, check. 500mm telephoto, check. Billy club, check. Cucumber, check. Okay, hon, I’m ready to go on errands.

Ooh, boom box (ghetto-blaster) with “Stayin’ Alive” cued up, check.

Wow. I couldn’t image being so scared that I feel I need to “open carry” a handgun everywhere I go.

It’s not a matter of being “scared.” It is simply a matter of being prepared, and refusing to be a victim. It also educates the public.

Unless statutorily prohibited by law (e.g. a school), I always carry a weapon on me when I’m out-n-about. I feel naked without it. And when my wife and/or children are with me, I believe it would be very irresponsible for me to not carry.

Where it’s not illegal to carry, I open carry (OC) 90% of the time and conceal carry (CC) 10% of the time. (Yes, even I will admit that there are times OC is inappropriate, even though it may be legal to do so.)

It’s not about being scared, emcee. It’s more about being proud to be an American.

(runs a portable metal detector over Derek Smalls’ crotch. (beep) Sometimes, you need a cucumber…)

And to clarify what Crafter said, ‘feel naked without it’ is much the way one feels naked without, say, a wristwatch. (I swear, after mumble years wearing my big old watch, I feel nervous as heck when I don’t wear it.)

Oh, just to double clarify: No, I don’t carry, myself. Work in NYC… and I only own shotguns. Open carry of a shotgun would be… actually really entertaining, but hardly practical.

Why am I not surprised at the amount of vitriol and ignorant comments being directed at someone who is merely guilty of exercising his rights (mostly about Crafter_Man, but even the guy in the OP. OH NOES, HE HAS A GUN!!! EVIL GUN NUT!)? Dumbass comments like being overwhelmingly “scared” or “psychotic” being the reason for open-carry, and the “penis compensation” idiocy only goes to show how childish some of you really are despite your pretentious beliefs to the contrary.

That sounds like being scared to me.

What the hell are you taking about? It’s not a flag pin. It’s a device specifically designed to threaten, maim, or kill other people.

The idea that solution to gun violence is to arm everyone is borderline psychotic. We live in a modern civil society, not some cheesy post-apocalyptic movie.
