In this thread on pistols seen worn by someone at a party , I was about to post the following but feel as though it sounds a bit “moderator-ish” and so instead, will post it in here as a rant.

Stop with the fucking hijacking. Did the OP’er say A WORD about shotguns? About hunting? About the rights of hunters to carry shotguns? Uh. No. The OP’er posted a very clear and narrowly focused Op about an interesting scenario that some Dopers have actually encountered.

Once again, the free for all ensues. Well fuck that shit, ok? Leave the thread be. You need to stomp around reminding every Doper that you are allowed to brandish dozens of shotguns and pistols? Goodie. Go start your own fucking thread.

It come as no surprise that gun apologists and gun fans haven’t waited long to rush in and talk about owning shotguns and how safe it is to learn to hunt, keep shotguns, blah blah blah.

So. Let us re-read the Op with care, shall we?

How this translates into a free for all with gun owners and seasoned hunters slamming people who have legitimate concerns regarding the issues raised by the OP’er is beyond me. He/ she could not have been more clear in wording.

Since you pointedly have not Pitted the unbanned trolls on here who are allowed to hijack threads with their anti-gun screeds, I’m guessing the real driver behind your Pitting was the pro-gun message, not the hijack. However, if you’ve Pitted the anti-gun folks before on doing this and I’ve missed it, well, I blame the Search engine and await a link.

That was what I took as an open invitation for my response, DeadlyAccurate. It’s not as though I said anything even remotely as rude or condescending as what was being said about people like me.

To answer your question directly no, I have not previously pitted this behavior so doing a Search will not yield results. Unless I’ve mis-read, a member is permitted to Pit someone or something without it having been pitted before.

Go find less enlightened targets and try to get them banned, cause I’m not rising to simple bait. In that thread as well as in THIS thread I categorically did not accuse anyone of being a troll or a sock puppet. Moving right along, DeadlyAccurate you are right, that quote later on in the thread does indeed invite the posts. My rant is about the OP, and more importantly, the utter inability to restrain one’s self when one is an avowed gun owner and believer in all things gun before all other things.

How can it possibly pertain to an OP that specifically states " pistol " several times to come sailing in with homilies about how Daddy and I used to shotgun hunt and gosh we’re just as safe as safe can be, or how we keep shotguns in the house under lock and key so really all guns are safe and blah blah fuckin’ blah.

The Op was as much about social interaction and thresholds of what you feel safe being NEAR and being EXPOSED to as it was whether or not pistols ( remember that pistol thingy that the OP clearly stated was the object of the discussion? Good. ) were appropriate to be carried and seen in a social setting, especially one where alcohol might be involved.

Make sure the next time I pit bad behavior, I make sure I (a) have already pitted the exact same behavior from the polar opposite political/religious/cultural/nationalistic perspective, or (b) intend to do so right away to avoid being called a hypocrite/troll/strawman/twoface by narrow-minded, tunnel-visioned asshats.

But seriously, the two quotes provided (I have not looked at the original thread) seem to be asking a question in the first part the OPer then seems to answer in the second. Perhaps he then qualified it further in the thread, but initially, he/she she seems to be asking “What would you think …?” and then says he wants to hear from those who “DON’T consider it normal to own a firearm” WTF? We already know what that group would say about a person carrying a gun!

And if I were to know a guy and by happenstance “feel something rock-hard with an unmistakable outline under his sweater,” well, I have plenty of female friends who would love to meet him. :stuck_out_tongue:
