NY AG Letitia James drops the (civil) hammer {On Trump & Family} [9/21/2022]

Just to say: I’m really looking forward to today’s ruling.

Do we have any idea when (what time) the ruling is expected?

j

We don’t seem to. I’ve got CNN on, and they keep saying, “Any time now,” without being more specific. In fairness, they can’t be. They do have reporters standing by at the courthouse and monitoring the court’s online page, so I’m sure that as soon as something happens, we’ll hear it.

But no idea as to when.

OK, thanks. On this side of the Atlantic it could be pretty late…

In 2.5 hours it will be 5pm in NY.

Yeah, generally they like to drop these things right before the news on Fridays. It will then suck up the airwaves all weekend.

The ruling is out. The ruling is divided into chunks that currently total more than 300 million. We’ll have a total figure shortly. Also some pretty severe restrictions on the company’s business practices in New York.

ETA: More than 360 million dollars.

300 million here, 80 million there … sooner or later it adds up to real money.

the hammer has fallen. 3 years no doing business for trump, 2 years for his sons, and 364 million.

Where do you guys find it? I’m not finding any news on it.

So close!

I’m listening to the news on MSNBC.

Ah. Thanks. You beat Google!

I’ve got CNN on. And they just published the news on their website, about five minutes ago.

ETA: Wonder if we’ll see Trump himself make a statement soon. He must be furious!

NY Times says that the appeal process is similar to the civil judgment against Trump in the Carroll case, i.e. he will have to stump up around $400mm (including interest) in cash or bond within 30 days in order to appeal.

I’m not familiar with NY procedure, but generally you can appeal without posting a bond, but it doesn’t stay the judgment.

Thank you, @JohnT . Excellent info—appreciate the exact dollar figures, and how they are separated out among the defendants.

I’m just hoping, $80 million judgment against Carroll, plus $360 million judgment and restrictions on business dealings. Based on fraud and slander. Keep piling them up and hopefully enough know-nothings and stay-at-homers might realize, “Gee, maybe this ISN’T the sorta guy we want having the most powerful job on the planet!”
