One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.
Right. Any undecided voters out there who think Biden might be too old for a second term (or too soft on Israel, or whatever) should be constantly reminded who the alternative is.
He had to be expecting this, but still, it has to hurt. Things are no going his way in court recently. And with a few criminal trials on the horizon, he should be a little worried, at least.
I believe this is true. However, if the judgment is not stayed (by posting bond), the plaintiffs can begin the process of collecting. They can go after Trump’s stake in Trump World Tower, Trump Tower, Trump Palace, the Trump International Hotel & Tower and the 1290 Avenue of the Americas building. Forbes values his portion of these properties at $720 million.
What does this mean though? Yeah, he hopefully will be on the hook for bigly $$$$. But can’t he just appoint some other scumbag to run his NY businesses and direct the criminal activity from behind? Perhaps Jared or Ivanka? And siphon money out of it.
Bank loans are his life blood, and he cannot do business with NY banks—that’s a lot of them. Also, I think the judge overseeing this going forward is specifically to prevent shenanigans such as a fig leaf leader.
No bank is going to give up doing business in NY State to keep the Trump’s business.
I also would like to note that interest is going to be applied to these fines, accrued since the occurrence(s). Some reporting I am hearing is saying an additional $90 million will be owed, making the fines Trump is accountable for could exceed $450 million.
Now I just need an additional $14.5 million to be added so I can win the contest.
I’m not sure, because I’ve only been half-listening, but I believe that part of the judgment dictates that an independent third party will be appointed to oversee Trump Org. (etc.) businesses and interests. So no Jared or Ivanka or anybody else connected with the Trump Org.
The businesses are enjoined from applying for financing from banks in New York for the next three years. So even if he’s not controlling them, they can’t get financing for three years. That would presumably make it hard to do business, even if nominally under someone else’s control.
As well, if someone takes formal control but is doing Trump’s bidding, that may lead to contempt or even criminal fraud issues, I would think, for trying to circumvent a court order?
As always, IANAUSL, but that’s what that paragraph of the order suggests to me.
