As much as Trump cries about this being a sham and a fraud, how often does the NY AG’s office go after business/individuals for this kind of thing?
Are you looking for statistics? Are you implying that Trump is being charged for a reason other than that he has committed fraud?
More than we probably realized.
Trump lashed out viciously at the judge and prosecutor after the gag order.
But if I’m correct, the gag order is for not attacking the judge’s staff, and so technically he didn’t violate it, right?
He’s acting like a 5-year-old who you tell not to do something, so they see how close they can go before they get in trouble. “You said don’t watch TV anymore but I wasn’t, I was looking at a mirror and it’s not my fault the TV was in the mirror.”
I wonder how long before the gag order is expanded and/or Trump violates it anyway.
Thanks a bunch. I figured this wasn’t the first time the AG’s office pursued such a case, but as I don’t usually follow these kinds of cases I just didn’t know.
Me, either, and I was curious. I was pretty sure it was rather routine, but this confirms it.
And of course, Trump is not the subject of a “witch hunt.”
Defendant: I object, Your Honor. This trial is a travesty. It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of two mockeries of a sham. I move for a mistrial. Do you realize there is not a single homosexual on that jury?
Juror: Yes there is.
Defendant: Really? Which one is it? Is it the big one at the end?
Quite a lot, as already demonstrated. NYC is an international business center; where there’s business, there’s white-collar crime. And falsifying records is a big part of most financial crime (the maxim that it’s the cover-up that often gets you, not the crime, applies here).
Nevermind. I replied before seeing the mod’s red card.
Not directly relevant to this civil case, but I recall that at the news conference after the NY criminal charges, the DA said that prosecuting false business records was the “bread and butter of the Manhattan prosecution office”, with a similar comment that New York is the business centre of the world, so prosecutions for inaccurate business records is a big part of their workload.
Makes sense - that’s where the big money is. Bank robberies and drug deals are pocket change compared to financial crimes.

Big news:
My investments in companies that manufacture sad trombones is really starting to pay off.
“Any application for a new business certificate in any jurisdiction”
Wow.
Sounds like the neutering has been going well this morning.
Also, a Congressman has asked Palm Beach to reappraise Maralago based on the Trump’s statements (and submitted financing documents) re: its net worth and to tax appropriately:
Well, guess what?
You know, everything about Trump, every tangent, every offshoot, it’s all just so wholesome.
Well, you gotta give that crowd an “A” for consistency. As in consistently awful.
