Shorthand for ‘hearing?’

Ah. Makes sense.

I would hope that if the night shift custodian found two sets of ledgers, one marked “Show to the authorities”; the other marked 'Under no circumstances show to the authorities", he would report that to the authorities.

Yes, hearings. Sorry.

There is something fundamentally wrong with Trump lawyer Alina Habba.

She declared that New York Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron does not have a “respect for authority” after he cautioned her client during testimony on Monday.

“There’s a real disregard for authority here and a real primary focus on politics,” the attorney remarked. “And that’s what we’re seeing in the courtroom.”… “I mean, who’s bigger than Donald Trump?” she asked. “And you sit there, and you’re trying to challenge him. It’s not going to work.”

What the hell. Does she really not understand how a trial works, and the position and duties of the judge in a trial? Or does she really think that Trump is a God-King whose word can never be questioned by a mortal man?

Probably both.

He probably told her at lunch to start making a stink. About anything. Or else! (Or else he was going to fire her, or not pay her, or both!). He’ll eventually toss her under the bus, too, so he may as well get his money’s worth and pressure her into making a scene - hey, it could work to get Judgey to slip and create an ember of impropriety on his part!

In this case, he loses the right to operate his businesses in New York, the heart of his supposed empire; a lot of his assets get sold out from under him to pay the fines likely to be levied against him; that sounds a lot like disaster to me. I doubt the grift will make up for the losses.

We don’t disagree, but … when you ain’t got nothing, you got nothin’ to lose. He has nothing to lose by throwing anything and everything he can at it. Most of us would go broke and then still suffer the consequences.

Another way to frame an earlier comment of mine is to analogize the strategy of Trump’s legal team to that of Ted Nugent:

In a 1970s High Times article, American singer-songwriter and future conservative activist Ted Nugent stated that he took crystal meth, and urinated and defecated in his pants before his physical, in order to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War.

I think there are parallels here.

Heh. It’s true, Trump is alleged to wear Depends.

What I think will really enrage him is seeing his properties sold for their real market value, perhaps even at distress prices depending on how swiftly the receiver puts them up for sale. He’ll probably sprain his thumbs rage-tweeting.

:notes: Donald, there’s a thing you can do
I said, Donald, when you’re in deep doodoo
Just keep quiet, and I’m sure you will find
It will give us some peace of mind

It’s smart to zip it and S-T-F-U
It’s smart to zip it and S-T-F-U
That might give you a shot
To not totally fail
You might even stay out of jail :notes:

Yeah.

“In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.”

never mind

I don’t think “de rigueur” is a term of legal art, but I feel like it fits here.

“We move for mistrial because fashion demands it.”

The thing is, a mistrial just means they start over. Is that really what they want? I would have expected a motion for directed verdict.

Is a directed verdict still a thing in a bench trial?

And the clock keeps ticking.

If the clock ticks long enough, Trump hopes the regained power of the presidency will save his worthless hide.

Not w/NY or GA, though – state vs. federal.

Worthless hide? Oh, yeah. All day long.
