A large police presence lately?
I’ve noticed a huge increase in cops on the street, on the subway, etc. lately. Have you noticed it too?

I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary, but then I’m up in Morningside Heights, where any extra police presence around the end of the month usually means there are ticket quotas to be filled. Where are you seeing this, midtown? Downtown?
From midtown, where I work, to Brooklyn, where I live.
I was just down in the Flatiron district and I noticed it there as well.
Now that I think about it, I suppose there are a few more around.
I saw a lone cop hanging around on the concourse level @ 71st/Continental this morning, and two at track level @ Spring Street.
I can’t recall ever having seen a cop in the Forst Hills subway station during the morning commute.
No cop sightings for me downtown. Occasionally some will lurk in the Chambers St. station, but other than that, nothing.
Maybe they’re looking for me!
I work right by Grand Central. Earlier in the week around lunchtime I noticed a line of police cars going with lights and sirens eastbound along 42nd Street. What was interesting was they were lamost all ordinary sedans with precinct markings, mostly in the 20s, one to a precinct. It was like they had ordered one car from each precinct in upper Manhattan to line up and charge across 42nd. I recall seeing something similar several months ago at a time when there was some big security event.
I also saw two pairs of ESU cops standing with automatic weapons, flack vests and helmets outside of the Chrystler Building. One of the groups was talking with a MTA K-9 officer with a dog.
I have to say, seeing NYPD officers in battle dress with automatic weapons really upsets me.
Good thing you don’t pass by Flatbush/Atlantic/Pacific often. We’ve had automatic weapons and dogs ever since 9/11. Actually, I’m not seeing so many machine guns around like I used to. I think that station has a canine unit just for it, because there’s always a dog there. He’s pretty friendly.
Yeah, I observed Vanderbilt Ave. parked up with fuzzmobiles on two occasions last week. My first thought was that W was addressing the Yale Club. When I saw them again the next night, I figured maybe there was some big diplomatic do somewhere in the vicinity – maybe the Waldorf?
The other night I was walking from Times Square back to 50th street up 8th ave. There were at least two cops on every block. Usually more.
I might think it was for tourists but it was Monday night and the b’way shows are closed and there were that many tourists out and about.
Yes, around Times Square. A lot of them looked really young and even had a couple cute lady cops who hadn’t developed cop-ass yet. I wonder if they are new recruits or something.
Periodically, NYPD has various drills where they all seem to get in their cars and congregate around some area.
There are an inordinate amount of cops around town. I take the **Sixth Ave ** line, and there are always several at the stations, mostly there to inspect peoples bags.
What I find funny though is how disheveled many seem to look; slouching in an ill-fitting uniform. This startled me when I moved here, being used to Chicago cops **(or hired goons as we used to call them!) ** who are very kempt and always seem to have an *overly intimidating * presence. The upside though is that NYC cops are much more helpful and friendly.
I’ve had traffic cops surrounding my building for months as part of the ongoing FDR construction project.
But I have seen more motorcycle/scooter patrols out in the past few weeks. I figure they’re taking advantage of the unusually warm weather to keep their skills up.
Nah.
Nobody wants you.
