NYC Dopers...who's interested in a trip to MOMA?

I discussed this with a few people in my LJ, but I thought I’d open it up to other NYC people in case anyone else is interested.

Basically, I’ve decided that I want to see the Matisse/Picasso exhibit at MOMA before it closes in mid-May. I’m only going to come into the city for the day, and I thought that if anyone wanted to join me to see the exhibit and then have dinner or something later, it would be fun.

The date we picked was May 17th, which is the last Saturday of the exhibit. The exhibit requires timed tickets (which are $20), so we decided on noon. You can get tickets via the website linked above, or for people in NYC, I think there are a few places you can physically pick them up.

A few people responded in my LJ that they couldn’t commit to going to MOMA, but would like to meet up later on, which is fine.

So…would anyone else like to join us?

Shamelessly bumping, since I posted this late yesterday afternoon and hardly anyone saw it…

Can’t make it but I already seen the exhibit. You should enjoy it.

FYI, I am sure you know that MOMA is temporarily in Long Island City, Queens, right?

By car I would suggest calling for direction or checking the website.

By train from Manhattan, take the #7 local (I believe all trains are local on weekends) to 33rd Street. Only 5 stops in Queens from Grand Centeral (about 10 mins).

Buying tickets in advance is advisable. They do sell “day of” tickets but you may have to wait a few hours to get in (depending on the crowds and how early you get there). If you buy in advance you just need to show up at the time on the ticket and pretty much walk in.

Sorry . . . Not particularly crazy about Picasso, and can’t stand Matisse. Now, in the highly unlikely event that MoMA does a Holbein/Titian exhibit . . .

Not to hijack your thread, but I’m in Chicago and I read an article about a glass art exhibit somewhere in New York. Has anyone seen it? It sounded wonderful.

Anytime I go to MOMA, I spend 90% of my time there gazing at Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Loved that painting so much that I bought a print for home the first time I saw it. I got a really really good price ($35 - wood frame and all). I got it as part of a package deal with Street Cafe at Night (believe that is correct title). Oddly enough, the first time I saw the original wasn’t until I went to the Mattisse/Picasso exhibit in March.

It was nice to know MOMA has good taste like me. At least on some of the art that is.

I want to go to MOMA and see the Hopper(s). I know they have at least one.

I’ll be there!

Sushi after?

There are more Hoppers at the Whitney - and you don’t have to schlepp to Queens.

I saw this show in London (ah, do you have any idea how glamorous it feels to be able to say that? ;)) so I’m not very into fighting the Mongolian hordes again. And, Manhattan snarkiness notwithstanding – MOMA’s swing(line)* space is definitely worth the trip; I went there for a print show a few months ago.

*It’s a former Swingline stapler factory.
