NYC Housekeepers and 18+ dollar/hr pay

Faced with possible strike in Chicago by hotel workers, I keep reading about how hotel workers in NYC are pulling in 18.00/hr plus pay. Housekeepers, operators etc.

http://www.chicagohoteldeadline.com/

If you go to the issues they say how much workers in different big cities get. Now I work in Chicago and our housekeepers are only getting about 7.00 which is a dollar some less pay than the website says.

I also am training mgrs in NYC and no one is getting near 18.00. The Credit Mgr and Acctng mgr for example are getting 18.50/hr.

So my question is what hotels are paying so much that it is inflating the average.

I only get a cite from the union of the 18.00 plus per hour wages

Does anyone KNOW of any NYC housekeepers, bellman etc making that much?

Short answer

Livign in/around NYC is F*&%en expensive

The key word here, as I see it, is union.

Is your hotel a union shop? (If there’s a giant, inflatable rat outside the building, I’d venture to say it’s not. NY Dopers will know what I mean.)

What union gave you the $18.00 cite?

Uh, could a mod please add a backslash to that second bracketed quote please? Thanks.

Yes our hotel is union but even in NYC our hotels are union and we don’t come close to that.
