NYPD Blue 2/10/04 (possible spoiler)

Just wondering -

Why was nobody on the squad able to deactivate the bomb the guy was wearing? Why did they have to wait helplessly for the bomb squad to take their time getting there?

And more importantly, why didn’t they simply remove Connie’s handcuff (surely they know how)? The Russians couldn’t see into the room, and wouldn’t have known she wasn’t cuffed to the guy.

But I guess it would’ve made for a really short episode.

Bomb deactivation is a VERY specialized task–you don’t just yank out a couple of wires. It wasn’t clear to me why the bomb squad was doing nothing once they DID arrive, however.

Supposedly there was a trigger on the hand cuffs that would have set off the bomb if they had messed with them. The construction of this one is hard for me to visualize, but I suppose it’s possible.

What I found unlikely was that Connie & the bomber were left alone for so much together time. I would expect the bomb squad to be present and all over them. Saying “do this”, “don’t do this” and very carefully examining the bomb

I didn’t see the end… can somebody fill me in? What happened with the bomb?

I remember seeing wiring between the cuffs at one point in the show.

I think the reason the bomb squad didn’t do anything immediately was becasue they needed to verify that the man attached to Connie was really an innocent bystander. If he had been one of the bombers he could have set off the bomb himself.

Also, since we know now wasn’t connected to the bombers they may have been worried about his daughter who was held hostage. Had the bombers tried to set the bomb off and realize it did not work then they had a dead child on their hands.

Although I liked the episode my biggest complaint was how John was able to get from lower Manhattan to Brighton Beach, find the son, and get back to lower Manhattan inside of 20 mins.

The russians claimed the bomb was booby-trapped so that if anyone tried to tamper with it, it would go off. That’s why they needed to get the boss to call it off – not just to stop the countdown, but to disarm it.

I thought it was an awesome episode. The actor who played the dupe did a great job of portraying someone who was totally batshit scared the whole time but still was absolutely adamant to go through with it to protect his daughter.
