I hope this doesn’t break the Board rules regarding commercial endorsements. Obviously, i have no financial interest in this, and i think i’ve been around here long enough that people will know i’m not spamming.
I watched NYPD Blue right through to the bitter end, despite some of the ludicrous plot developments and increasingly stale writing. I love the character of Sipowicz, which i think is one of the best-written and best-played characters on TV, and it was mainly Dennis Franz that kept me tuning in during the last few seasons.
Anyway, after an extremely long wait, Season 3 is about to be released on DVD. I’ve been waiting for this for ages, as i think that seasons 2-6 with Jimmy Smits as Bobby Simone were fantastic television (the Rick Schroader seasons were also good). Based on limited information i was able to glean from various internet sources, it seems that the reason that Season 3 took so long was that Season 2 DVD sales were pretty poor.
I’m not trying to convert anyone here. And, as i said, i have no interest in this except my own enjoyment. Also, i couldn’t care less, in general, whether FOX makes money or loses it. But if you loved these early seasons like i did, then it could be that the only way to keep future seasons coming is to vote with your dollars.
Also, i’m really stoked that they are finally about to release the first season of Hill Street Blues.
