NYT Spelling Bee drives me crazy

Maybe, but what does my sexual life have to do with Spelling Bee?

No CARYATID?

I can usually get to Genius without too much difficulty but sometimes need hints on the last couple of words. I’m kicking myself if one of those words was something I knew but the other day, the last word, for which I needed a hint, was maillot. That was not a word I knew.

Today’s Spelling Bee is a repeat, because I remember finding “caryatid” a couple of years ago, and being annoyed that it wasn’t in the word list – especially because it’s a pangram! It was the first time I submitted a word via email and got their standard response back about how they don’t use jargon or obscure words.

It’s probably not a true repeat. It’s the same letters with a different center letter which has happened many times. I think there are some that have gone through four or five rounds like this. @Maserschmidt ?

Spelling Bee Solver tells me that the same combination of letters (with different center letters) was used twice. And in neither puzzle was the word caryatid allowed.

Center letter C: July 17, 2023
Center letter T: June 16, 2021

Yeah, I didn’t think about the center letter being different. :man_facepalming: That does make a difference!

I tried CARYATID 3 times, just to make sure I had the spelling right.

And in an example of synchronicity, I found the article below in my mailbox this morning:

I thought that I had a beautiful pangram first with UNMALLEABLE

Also UNNAMEABLE, and UNAMENABLE

I tried those too and a few more. This is aggravating.

Today’s pangram that’s aggravatingly not accepted: CATALEPTIC

No place today?

Try again. Unless autocorrect fixed PLAICE for you.

Does autocorrect work with Spelling Bee? I never use autocorrect and don’t even know how to turn it on in my browser.

I meant autocorrect here.

Yep! I hate it when I don’t catch it. I’m pretty sure I’ve carped about that word here before.

No INVAGINATING? It’d be another pangram and I didn’t think it was that obscure.

Nm…

lol now now, John.

Meanwhile, maybe too Briish? INVIGILATING
