Anydody catch ths excellent collection on FOX? Its a compendium of O. Henry short stories, filmed in the early 1950’s, and introduced by John Steinbeck. Great acting!
Is it true that O . Henry died in poverty? I loved the “GIFT OF THE MAGI”! Such a sweet story (though corny).
Anyway, who owns the rights to these short stories today?
I too love GIFT OF THE MAGI, and read it every year at Christmas (but then, I also love to read The X-Files Christmas each year too.
)
I don’t know who owns the stories. I thought that they were now in public domain, as I have seen GIFT OF THE MAGI published online several times. However, I checked Project Gutenberg and could not locate any O’ Henry. That doesn’t mean it isn’t public domain, just that it isn’t on Project Gutenberg.
All of O. Henry’s writings published in his lifetime were in the public domain by 1986.
Project Gutenberg has a large selection of O. Henry works. (Are you sure you didn’t look him up as O’Henry?)
I did, you are right. Thanks!
