O Mighty Isis...Joanna Cameron R.I.P

Like many little girls, I had a fascination with ancient Egypt. I used to watch Ms. Cameron on Saturday mornings.

Isis is one superhero I wish would have a reboot.

R.I.P.

Found a news story on her passing – she had suffered a stroke, and passed away, due to complications from it, this past Friday, at age 70.

Damn. I so had the hots for her. :frowning:

The character was created for the TV show, but was later integrated into the DC universe; the article to which I linked noted that it’s believed that the character will be appearing in the upcoming Black Adam film.

Damn, she was only a little older than me.

Probably the best set of legs in the history of kids’ television.

I loved that show when I was a kid. Rest in peace.

It hasn’t been announced by the studio, but the actress has mentioned it on social media.

She’s definitely playing the civilian identity at least. The way these things go, she may not be Isis until the sequel.

And, I should have said earlier…it’s very sad news. Ms. Cameron was one of my first TV crushes.

Rest in peace, Joanna.

She has been a character in the show Legends of Tomorrow for a couple of seasons. They may have used the name Isis once or twice. The name has become more problematic since the 1970s. They just call her by her first name.

I’m a bit surprised the comics at least didn’t come up with new superhero name for her.

If I recall correctly (and I may not, I watched decades ago), the idea was that the necklace she found essentially made her an avatar of Isis, able to wield the powers of the goddess after invoking it.

I loved that show. One of the first times I saw a woman hero/superhero.

Captain Kangaroo never wore shorts, though.

Mr. GreenJeans would’ve had a fit.

The goddess is about 4,000 years old. Hard to change that backstory. I don’t even know if the character is alive currently in the comics.

True, but DC has changed character names before (see Captain Marvel → Shazam), so even if one didn’t change the character’s backstory, it’d certainly be possible to have her take on a different superhero name, if they felt it was necessary.

Sure, but I wouldn’t expect them to change her backstory. She would just, in continuity, choose to change her name.

The goddess herself has other names, so she could use one of them:
