Oak's College Pick'em '11

When I first looked at the schedule, I was surprised to see Thursday’s game on the schedule. Last year, I don’t think they any Thursday’s games were on our list.

Yeah, well…love my Bullydogs, and I’m not immune to homerism. LSU usually stomps State, and may do it again, but I’ll be watching and ringing my cowbell all the same.
And yes, it sure looks like the State/LSU game has been removed from the slate of games we pick this week. I show 26 games.

Since my original pick is no longer on the list, the new Oak’s Upset of the Week is:

Clemson at home over Auburn.

(currently 0-2 on upset picks–I gotta get one right sometime)

Clemson is a three point favorite last I saw.

In Oak’s world, every team is an underdog to SEC team.

Auburn is ranked at 21 in the current AP poll, and Clemson is unranked, so that’s the basis for my calling Clemson over Auburn an upset. I don’t look at betting lines very often.

My Bullydogs came up short last night, but they gave a good accounting of themselves. Think the final score was 19-6, but the game was close until late in the 4th quarter. That LSU offensive line just wore down State’s defense, and State couldn’t do much of anything on offense.

Last week, I missed the first game of the week, but successfully picked the winner in the last 22 games. This week, I didn’t miss one until game 17 (I picked UK over Louisville). 38 consecutive winners! I also missed the “Ineligibowl” game (Ohio St at Miami).

Okie State/Tulsa game might be going into wee hours of the morning. Tornado warnings in Tulsa.

Looks like** notfrommensa** had a monster week, racking up 340 points and putting some distance between himself and the rest of the field. Sadly, I’ve slipped to a tie for 5th place.

On the upside, I was right about Clemson over Auburn, so now I’m 1-2 on the Upset Special.

[tooting my own horn] I have actually had two “monster” weeks.[/HONK HONK]

I only missed one game last week and two games this week.

22 games to pick this week, looks like some good games featuring SEC teams. Alabama-Arkansas, and LSU @ West Virginia top my list of games to watch.

My Official Upset Special of the Week is a shocker:

Arizona at home over Oregon.

Left hand column won 21 out of 22 games yesterday. I picked three “upsets” and one of them won.

Yeah, you’re solidly in first place as I think you’ve been all season. I moved up a spot to 5th this week, but I’m 40 points behind you…

I made up some ground this week tying for the win with 248. The only game I missed was the FSU/Clemson game with 5 points. I knew Clemson was favored, but dammed if I’m gonna pick them unless I have to!

20 games to pick this week, and some good ones to watch.

Alabama-Florida is the marquee matchup of the week. The winner will likely be in Atlanta for the most important prize in college football…the SEC Championship. Roll Tide!

Clemson-Virginia Tech has potential. I think Clemson will take the win.

South Carolina-Auburn is another big SEC slugfest where anything can happen.

Oak’s Official Upset Special of the Week is…

Mississippi State over Georgia on the road in the Battle of the Bulldogs.

Indeed a good week. I second the Miss State “upset” but I have to pull for VaTech to snatch The Belt from Clemson and for Auburn to ruin SCar’s SEC record and hopes for an East title. Thing is that even with a drubbing from Bama, it will likely come down to the Gators or the Chickens for that honor. I see no way for LSU not to win the West.

Even though I picked Ark to beat TAMU, I think it will be a fun game to see how A&M responds to their new SEC label. Could be a fun game.

The only thing between LSU and the SEC/BCS title is Alabama (assuming Bama beats Florida this week, and I think they will), and the game is in Tuscaloosa on November 5. Homefield might make the difference. On a neutral field, I think LSU beats Bama–better defense and an offensive line that can just grind it out on the ground. In Bryant-Denny Stadium, maybe Bama can find a way to win.

Some really marquis games today. ACC, SEC, Big 10 all have conference games between undefeated teams. Big XII actually has two conference games between undefeated teams, but I think both Kansas St and Iowa St are going to get a big dose of reality later today against Baylor and Texas.

Last place this week. Pfffft.

I picked a good week to have a bad week with only 22 games. Lots of SEC Conference games and Top 25 match-ups meant that there wasn’t very many games.

Everybody except RollOonYouBears had their worst week yet–and the only reason he didn’t is that he did not get his picks in for Week 3. My poor Bullydogs got beat at Georgia, but Bama dominated Florida and knocked their QB out of the game. LSU crushed Kentucky. Bama-LSU on November 5 is really shaping up to be the true National Championship game.

I made up some ground this week, but yeah it wasn’t pretty. My poor Gamecocks looked like a C-USA team this week.

If our pool each week is SEC + Top 25, why isn’t tonight’s game (Cal vs #9 Oregon) on the list?
