Oak's NFL Fantasy League 2012

I just renewed the league at Yahoo. Invitations should have been sent to everyone that played last year. Scoring and Settings are the same as last year. The draft is set for Thursday, August 30, at 8:30 PM.

I’ll hold roster spots for everyone for two weeks. After that, we’ll open recruiting to fill any vacancies.

My team remains the Darnassus Druids.

I’m certainly back. We’re using a traditional snake draft in this league, right? If so, the draft time works for me.

I’m in!

I’m back. Hopefully my tactic of knowing as little as possible going into the draft will be as effective as it was last year.

Any scoring changes?

I haven’t changed anything from last year, but the floor is open for discussion of any proposed rules tweaks.

Sweet. Thanks. I’m fine with the scoring and I can make the draft.

Chicago 86ers.

I do have a question regarding the settings:

Why are the playoffs week 15 and 16 instead of week 16 and 17? Is it to avoid an odd number of games played or allow for the extra post-season third and fourth place games, or both? And if it’s to avoid the odd number of games, what’s the big deal with that? Home/away disparity?

Wait a minute. There is no home/away in fantasy football. Then what gives with starting playoffs on week 15? I can only divine that it is to allow for the other fun type games. But I’d prefer the extra week of “business” football.

I think that is the default setting. I don’t remember changing it. If the league was big enough to need another round of playoffs, week 17 would be available. Then again, some teams that have clinched their playoff spot will rest their starters in week 17, making for odd scoring if that weeks games were to be used…

But the starters aren’t really resting.

ETA: Head-bang. You mean the real-life teams. Ok, I get it now.

But does that really happen very often, even by teams that have clinched everything? Enough to give up a week of fantasy football fun? My intuition is that not too many teams rest there starters in week 17, injuries excepting, of course.

It happens often enough that most leagues (ESPN, for example) have the league playoffs end before week 17. Want to take a stab at how many fantasy points Aaron Rodgers put up in week 17 last year?

Touche. I’ll take Matt Flynn for 1000 Alex.

Ok, new tack:

How many teams have the luxury of resting their starters on the final week? As far as I can tell, last year, the Green Bay Packers only, and they rested only Rodgers.

Anyway, it’s not a huge point, Oak; I was just curious, mostly. Love the league and scoring and playoff mechanic.

The only issue I had with the scoring was that the defense put up huge points every game. Granted, that was how I got the most wins, but it seemed like a lot games came down to the defense. Maybe keep all the same scoring mechanics for defense, but turn down the points a little.

Honestly, I don’t remember if I played in this league last year. I had so many things going on last year.

What’s the draft like?

I think I’d like to play in this one, as long as the draft and trades aren’t too complicated.

What do ya think, Oak?

At the moment, we have 6/10 players returning from last year. I’m going to hold spots for the other four until this thread has been open for two weeks. Any unfilled spots after that will be available for new players.

Returning Teams:

Darnassus Druids
The Lorem Ipsums
Phoenix Redbirds
London Calling
Detroit Lurkers
Chicago 46ers

Missing from last year are:

Cliff’s Clavins
Oilers(IKN)
Unrelated Siblings
Flying Megashark

Yuppers. I’m in.

Unrelated Siblings returning for revenge!

Oak, you mind if I invite a RL friend, presuming all of the participants from last year won’t be back?
