I’ve always assumed that Bin Laden spent some of the last 8 years recording various videos along the lines of “I know the news reported my death by Jello Bomb - but as you can see, it’s not true.” Or "The recent claims by the Great Infidel to have tickled me to death are clearly wrong . . . . " It won’t surprise me to see a video pop up in the next week or two of Bin Laden denying reports of his own death.
My boss’s best friend was in the plane that crashed into the Pentagon, and my boss bought the friend’s new car out of her estate as a sort of memorial/keepsake to remember her friend. She’s still driving it, and I walked past it in the parking garage a few minutes ago. I gave it a pat and said, “Got the fucker.”
I have a D.Phil from Oxford myself, and I used to work for the alumni office at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford. Believe me, Oxford calls its terminal degree “D.Phil.”
Does the US government have any idea how long he was living in this compound in Abbottabad? The Wikipedia article says that the house was built in 2005. Is it possible that he’s been living there all this time, and not in a cave as we all thought?
We know that the CIA has been watching this building since at least August of last year, so he’s been there at least that long. Most likely he’d been there for several years.
This made me laugh out loud last night. I had to explain it to my wife, though, as she only read the first three or four Harry Potter books and has no idea what “horcruxes” are.
Speaking of odd connections your brain makes, while I’m on the subject of Harry Potter and bin Laden:
The first Harry Potter movie was released in November 2001. Two months after 9/11.
The last Harry Potter movie will be released in July 2011. Two months after Osama was killed.
I know there’s no real correlation between the two, but still …
My dad has a DPhil from Sussex, but he always refers to it as a PhD. It’s the same degree, just a different abbreviation. I think insisting on DPhil would be like insisting on “Dr Greitens” instead of “Dr. Greitens”.
OK, I’m looking but haven’t been able to find the military college yet. There is a location identified as Government Post-Graduate College #1. Is that it? (And where’s the local Domino’s Pizza franchise? There is a college, so I assume that they’re ordering late-night pizza.)
