Obama announcing death of Osama bin Laden [edited title]

Surprised they aren’t singing this.

Live streaming news from Al Jazeera (in English) if you want a different perspective.

Well, it’s in Pakistan. I assume CIA only, then.

Obama’s speaking now.

JSOC kicks ass!!

Obama’s on now. He just confirmed the death personally.

ABC says that special ops forces came over from Afghanistan.

If he was killed a week ago, I guess they must have been holding the announcement pending the DNA identification. I strongly suspect that timing the announcement to bigfoot The Apprentice was not a coincidence.

It’s mostly a symbolic and psychological event, but it’s a lift for the whole country. I wonder how the right wll find a way to piss on it.

Geez, bet you’re real fun at a party.

First time I’ve ever wanted to watch Fox News over CNN just to see how they’d spin this.

Obama just said the hunt has been “tireless”, too.

Sounds like Obama is responsible.

I hate to rain on your parade, Shayna, but the CIA and the U.S. military, its intelligence and weapons capabilty probably had a lot more to do with this than Obama did. It isn’t that hard to say, “Go ahead and hit 'im, guys!”

Still, it happened under his watch. Plus he hasn’t bailed on the people of Afghanistan. So kudos where due, President Obama.

P.S. - Bush never pretended to kill Osama. And “Mission Accomplished” referred to our having crushed Saddam Hussein’s vaunted military - something that took only three weeks to accomplish - and it was intended as a giant high-five to the U.S. military in Iraq, whose members had risked and sometimes lost their lives in order to make it happen.

Wow, this happened today? CNN said last week.

I don’t see spin in “tireless.”

Yeah, I caught that and am confused.

ETA: re: fluiddruid

Since he resumed the hunt, Fox is implying that Bush never gave up.

Fox had that up before Obama started speaking.

No, it happened last week, but they waited to release the info today.

I am pretty sure Obama said the attack occurred today.

I’m thinking US special forces killed him and hauled his body out of there, which may have taken awhile.
