David Michael Green, a professor of political Science at Hofstra, is at least consistent in his position. His blog just goes on and on and on like this.
This is in the Pit for what? It looks rather like mundane and pointless material unless you actually have something to post about this in flames of hell fire which it doesn’t seem you do.
For the first time ever, I understand why GOP politicians play to their base all the time -even if it means saying crazy, unpopular things. Because the base is will go all jilted lover on you if you say anything that they don’t like.
I makes me wonder why the Dem.s don’t throw their base a few bones. All they have to do is say publicaly that they’d prefer the public option, or [insert dem favorite here] and all these folks would settle down no matter what the politicians actually do. Look how GOP politicians have been playing their base for fools with the “we hate abortion” shtick for 30 years.
IMHO, most of the democrats are corporate whores just like the GOP. Since they are supposed to be on the side of the “little guys” such as union members, workers, etc. they only have two choices when they side with their coporate sponsers over their base, they have to either act like spineless cowards who can’t stand up to any GOP opposition or revel themselves as the bribed crooks that they are. The spineless, inept coward tag isn’t the best, but it beats the alternative.

The column does illustrate the reason that I think the Dems tend to seem so ineffective when they’re in office. Unlike the Republican base, which can generally be considered to be buying in to at least the ostensible platform of the party, for whatever personal reasons they have, the Democratic base is, in some large proportion, mostly so because there is no actual leftist party in the US that has any chance of winning anything. There’s a significant percentage of the Democratic base that would gladly vote for a European-style democratic socialist party if there were any chance whatsoever of that party getting seats. That conflicts with the Business Democrats, who are generally bought and paid for before they even get to National Airport.
It has been a long time. There actually have been some recent sexual developments regarding positions that *include *the mouth. You don’t want to miss out on those.
