If they want to stay in office, you’re damn skippy. Same goes for the Dems. Like it or not, your base elects you because they can be arsed to vote.
I’ve been placidly saying the same thing the article in the OP is yelling for about the last 5 months. The one thing that Obama is going to do is ensure that for the next 8 years, there will be republican presidents, and maybe even this Brown chap from the great state of Mass-uh-chew-setts.
I like Obama, I cast my vote for him and his ideals, but the fact is, the Democratic bus is heading for the wall and Barack has his foot on the gas. It’s only a year, know, but at this rate, the dems will at worst lose their entire hold on the house and senate and will at best be lame ducks floating in the media pond until the campaigning for 2012 starts in June of 2010.
Which means they should STOP rolling over. They should stop ignoring their base, and stop trying to suck up to people who’ll never vote for or cooperate with a Democrat or a black man. They can stop trying to convince their base ( hell, the public in general ) that there’s no reason to vote at all.
What “gas”? They aren’t doing much of anything at all. And as far as I can tell, the “Democratic bus” isn’t headed anywhere. That would require direction, instead of drift and lethargy.
