Obama fanboys and other insulting reassignments for words.

I recently saw something which referred to Obama supporters as fanboys and thought that it was a fairly clever insult. If not called on it you get away with dismissing his support as the equivalent of Spiderman fans (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I suppose gun nuts is an older example.

And a reverse example is atheists calling themselves brights to indicate that theists aren’t.

Any others?

Pro-choicers are sometimes called abortionists or pro-abortion. On the flipside, there are anti-choicers.

In decades past, people who dared to speak out against the dominant regime were sometimes labeled “pinkos” or “commies.”

How about ‘‘breeder,’’ used either as an insult for straight people by homosexuals, or as an insult for people who choose to have children by people who do not?

“Bright” is/was supposed to be a term broader than atheist. It was more about skeptical scientific materialism, or something along those lines. But that’s why I didn’t like the term- that and the fact that it makes atheists sound like they love fuzzy baby unicorns. It’s cutesy, and atheists are generally not a cute crowd.

Other terms for the anti-abortion crowd would have to include “the fetus people.”

And with that, we’re off to IMHO.

I think even liberals who LIKE Obama have observed that there are different levels of Obama supporters.

There are plenty of liberals who like him for his stands on the issues.

There are plenty of liberals who support him because he’s a superb orator and a smart guy who seems to inspire people.

There are plenty of liberals who like Obama because he’s always been firmly opposed to the Iraq War.

There are plenty of liberals who like Obama because they think he could bring about racial reconciliation in America in a way no other candidate could

And as a sarcastic, conservative Republican, I can respect the stance of ALL of those liberals. I wouldn’t call THOSE Obama supporters “fanboys.”

But read something like this, and tell me it doesn’t strike you as misguided, goofy, immature hero worship:

THIS is the kind of nonsense that makes many conservative commentators use dismissive terms like “fanboy.”

/bangs head against the wall.

OMFG. Obama should find that writer and beg him to shut the hell up. All he’s going to do is give Obama’s opposition the chance to snicker and cackle, and pull the debate away from topics we really need to discuss.

Lightworker? He actually calls Obama a Lightworker? Why? Because Lightbringer was already taken?

This topic of this thread is not Obama-the topic is “Insulting reassignments for words”.
