Obama Forced to Show ID at Gym

Story here. (I think this is the permanent link.) That is funny.

Excerpt: "‘It’s always a rush in the morning, everyone’s trying to come in quickly,’ Perez-Tamayo said. ‘She asked him for his last name and he said ‘Obama,’ then she asked him for his first name.’

“‘It was very funny, she then realized who he was and said, “Oh I am so sorry!”’ Perez-Tamayo added.”

Well what did he expect ?
He’s a negro so he was obviously there to steal something.
That alone makes him unfit to be P.O.T.U.S…er his lack of experience I mean.

I’m sure FOX News will be along shortly to point out that the real reason a black man shouldn’t be president is that “they” all look alike, so how will the White House staff know if he’s the president or the cleaner?

Fox News isn’t as bad as you make it out to be; Fox News is immeasurably worse. I fear you have given them too much of a good reputation and that people will not be critical enough of them.

This is pretty amusing. A followup would also be interesting – if some member, who is also a reporter, could keep an eye on the entrance over a few days and document whether white people without cards are stopped as well.

And the story didn’t mention this – but he walked in with an SS entourage, so did she pick HIM out of the gaggle to challenge? Prsumably none of them had cards either, and presumably they were predominately white. (I don’t know this for a fact, but I lived in DC for 12 years and I saw a lot of SS details, and I don’t recall ever seeing a black agent. I’m sure there are black agents, but they seem to be few and far between). If she really did single him out of a group of white people, it makes me think she figured he was trying to slip in among “legitimate” white members.

I’m probably over-thinking this.

This isn’t very fair to the gym. I used to work as a greeter in a large PX where we had to check everyone’s ID, and everyone meant everyone, as in you could get into trouble if someone got to the checkout and didn’t have it on your shift. Also after a couple of months of practice, it became pretty easy to peg the leader or “main person” of the group, so I’m not surprised at all that she picked Obama out to show his ID rather than one of the Secret Service agents.

If Washington Sports Club has a reputation for discrimination against minorities, that’s one thing, but as far as I can see, Perez-Tamayo did exactly the right thing.

More likely he was the obvious leader of the entourage.

I agree the receptionist did the exact right thing, so long as they do this to everyone. I’m just saying, if I were a local reporter, I would check out the place to see if this was true.

 They are a private gym in Washington DC. Do you think they just let people come in off the street for a free workout?

Where would you get that idea? I never suggested any such thing.

Here:

I think you misread Boyo Jim. Bolding added for emphasis:

The reporter would be a member, who was checking to see if all other members are carded as well.

LOL. A friend of mine used to work at the Barnes & Nobles store located in the town where B&N CEO Len Riggio lived. She got pleasure from relentlessly asking if he had a “frequent buyer’s” card, and if he wanted one, every time he came in (as required by company policy). Let’s face it, some corporate policies are meant to be blandly abused for your own amusement.

I think I understood but it just seems like a stretch to question the receptionist’s motives when there really wasn’t anything unusual in what she did. Checking IDs, and making sure your account is paid up, is SOP at every gym I’ve been too. It’s not as if, say, she booted him on some obscure dress code rule.

But obviously YMMV. I should admit I’m no expert on the fitness industry.

What made me question this is that he was seemingly singled out from a group of men. I could be wrong about this, but that is the impression I got from the story – and perhaps his entourage was also pressed to provide cards, and the story didn’t mention it. If I were a local reporter, I would ask more questions – but I wouldn’t go publishing allegations unless there was more evidence than has been presented so far.

Washington Sports Club? I had no idea Obama was gay.

gotcha, fair enough.

I go to that very same gym, and they do in fact check everybody’s ID, black or white. In fact, they have to scan your key card thing in order to get in, so you can’t exactly go around it.

Does anyone remember when Bush visited the UK and the secret service asked Queen Elizabeth to wear an ID badge so they would know it was really her?
