Obama = GW Bush

Oh lord, what a typo. George HW Bush had a real hand for foreign policy. George W…occasionally leaves the country.

I share the OP’s pain about ignorance surrounding Canada.
I will not rest until I help them achieve statehood (except the Frenchy part) and put an end to their suffering.

Man, I’ve heard about being colourblind, but this takes the proverbial cake.

Yes and no. It was a running bit for Mercer similar to “Jaywalking” where he was routinely able to get people to comment on plainly ridiculous things (like banning the Toronto seal hunts or Canada owning the drilling rights to Mt. Rushmore and the like), or at least, things that would be plainly obvious if his targets had any familiarity at all with Canada, so this was an extension of that. In context, it’s just another part of the bit. Like I said, it was a little more obvious with this one that Huckabee had an idea he was being played than in the person on the street bits.

It wasn’t the most brilliant comedy bit ever and it got stale really fast (plus I’m sure you could have gotten some similar comments from Canadians). What it really said was how easy it is to get people to agree with whatever someone holding a microphone is saying.

You’re all missing the scariest part here:

Yes, that would fix everything - labour agreements with three incredibly disparate countries. Maybe someone with more knowledge of economics can explain why this would be good (for Canada), because it sounds like nothing but bad to me.

I’m guessing because Canadian workers enjoy greater protections than there American or Mexican counterparts, which contribute to the cost of labor, and could spur companies to move south, although that whole not having to provide healthcare might encourage them to stay.

Well, looks like they ducked a bullet on the American politics, at least…

How can he possibly deal with the strife and unrest in Canadia if he doesn’t even know about their queen, for goodness sake!

I guess I’ll have to vote Republican. :frowning:

The latter has not been shown, because Bush was the one* who thought Poutine was the PM, not Obama.

Assuming that it wasn’t a slip of the tongue is somewhat worrying, yes, but I think that’s a rather large assumption.

*-in the OP, at least. You may have another quote that shows Obama making this mistake as well.

Well, presumably these labor amendments would be negotiated, and I doubt that Harper would help American companies at the expense of Canucks’ jobs. In my view, talking about stuff in an effort to improve a situation is rarely a bad thing.

Maeglin I agree with you about George HW Bush. It’s too bad he had all the charm of Nosferatu. I admire a president who can get us into and out of a war within 100 days.

Of course his meddling in foreign politics throughout his career is another story.

Hee. Bush’s “intellectual curiosity.” Hee

I haven’t been paying attention. Did the UP become southwestern Ontario?

Oh, come on, you don’t seriously think the UP is really a part of the USA, do you? No, no, no; see, it doesn’t really exist. It’s just a hallucination of people caught in snowstorms.

I mean, it’s not even labeled on the map!

<consults map of continental USA> Hmmm…if one heads north northeast from Chicago, via Lake Michigan, I suppose one does run into the Straits of Mackinac, which leads to Canada, but really, most people bump into the UP or Michigan first.
Never heard of IL bordering Canada–where are our border police?! We need a HUGE wall built, pronto!

I like Obama. I haven’t made up my mind as to whom I’m going to vote, but he seems personable, intelligent and intellectual–let’s face it, any candidate who can walk and chew gum at the same time, and has some mastery over basic English grammar will be a marked improvement over Bush Jr. Seems to me he misspoke when he said Canadian president. Could happen to anyone. That said, I’m somewhat surprised at the caucus results, but doubt that it means much long term.

That’s a map to my house! How you do dat?

Bwahahahaaaaa!
No, wait, I mean…b’waaaaah? It *should *link to a google map of North America. There must be an active cookie or some’at over on your end.

Cookies don’t last long around here when Chi Chi is in the house.

What, it took 14 replies before someone caught that ? I was wondering how long it would take.

Its a good thing I’m not running in the next general election for prime minister of Canada.

Look, Obama worries me. Americans seem to be caught up with his charisma and his mantra for change without any real idea of what change they can expect and how he would perform as an administrator. He clearly can talk the talk on what’s happening with the popular issues, but what he doesn’t know could bite Americans in the ass. Its happened to the US a couple of times in my lifetime with drastic results.

Americans wanted change after the debacle of Nixon (Ford not withstanding), and elected a man exuding forthrightness and got an incompetant pessimist.

More recently Americans wanted change again after the embarrassment of Lewinsky and elected a family values man who turned out to be a complete disaster.

Now Americans seem to want to get as far away as they can get from Bush and assume that this politician can deliver the promises.

Actually, I think Obama has a lot of potential. But we don’t want to buy a pig in a poke. What I’ve been waiting for for quite a few years is another Clinton administration. Overall, those were damn good years.

Gonna be hard to make a case for Obama being ignorant, I don’t recall the details, but I remember he has an advanced GED.

Hey! I got it in at 12!
