Obama Sets Up Commission To "Fight" The Deficit!

My original statement was “inoperative”? The only inoperative thing around here is that gray matter holding your ears apart. I did say “taxes,” but it was clearly in the context of (i) a US federal government budget deficit and (ii) taxes that people discussing the matter could vote on, so it was clear I meant US federal income taxes.

You are focusing on this very narrow semantic issue because you have nothing to offer to the debate (or to life in general).

I didn’t modify anything, I only clarified. And, again, the fact that you are fine paying more in taxes doesn’t mean it’s beneficial for society as a whole for the government to force me to pay more in taxes.

Whether or not certain trolls are still apoplectic?

-Joe

You stated that most people don’t pay taxes. Then, at some point - can’t be bothered - you “clarified” that to most people don’t pay federal income tax. Both of those statements are, in fact, factually incorrect.

It is not beneficial for society as a whole to increase taxes in order to reduce the national debt and the budget deficit? Really?

You are wrong on both counts–I never said either of those things. Christ, it’s only a 3-page thread, and already you can’t read what I said.

That’s right. We need to stop spending so much.

That maxim applied to the private sector would bring on a depression.

And that maxim applied to the public sector would do the same.

Keynes was not omniscient, but neither was he wrong.

“Your honor, when I said my client had paid his taxes in full, I very clearly meant the US FIT the whole time. And I meant for the year 1997 only. And by “paid”, I meant he intended to pay them soon. You must listen to what I mean, not what I say.”

If you ever actually do get to be a lawyer guy, please don’t pull the same shit at work that you do here.

It never ends . . .

Band Name!

I went upstairs and found your mom rooting through my old clothes. She said that she was ashamed her son made so much money, yet tells her if she wanted any of it, she should go out and get a damn job for herself because Ayn Rand brainwashed him into thinking that giving money away hurts society.

Then she explained that you are indeed a retard who has a pathological inability to admit to any mistake.

Wait, not,

:smack: That’ll save DtC a whole lot of time then.

CMC fnord!

Regarding the middle-class tax cut issue, can we get a volunteer to give up a summary of his or her just-filed return with the promise to post the corresponding information from next April’s return ? Even a percentage might be useful: taxes paid / taxable income.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 established the Making Work Pay tax credit, which is a $400 tax credit for individuals who worked and did not receive an economic recovery payment in 2009 and had adjusted gross income up to $75,000. Those who earned between $75k and $95k received a tax credit equal to $400 less 2% the amount of their AGI that exceeded $75k.

So, at the very least, there was a $400 tax credit for middle class workers in 2009 that did not exist in 2008.

How is it that Starving Artist has avoided this stupidity cage match between RR and ralph?

I heard he’s renovating his bridge. takes all his time these days.

Much as I agree with you, they were being equally idiotic when Bush was still in office and it was Paulson’s bailout. They seem to hate economic sanity from either party - the far right Republicans, that is, not the five or six centrists.

Still no cite from DtC. Raise your hand if you are surprised.

I don’t trust that Rover’s taxes have dropped simply because I don’t trust that he can add correctly and thus the primary measurements (i.e. comparing his current tax return to next year’s) are suspect.

I don’t do my own taxes. So nyah.

In that case, I don’t trust your accountant because it’s entirely possible he’s gauged what a dumbass you are and is robbing you blind.
