Obama voters: will you choose Hillary or McCain

Clinton, but I would not enjoy it very much.

McCain

I could not vote for Hillary. I didn’t much like her before, and she’s become repulsive to me in the last few months.

Clinton, and I’m pretty sure I’d be able to convince myself I like her by November. I managed to convince myself I liked Kerry in 2004.

Republican. Hillary is running, ah, to show the Republicans what for.

Much as I hate the last twenty years of my party, no. No, that’s what’s wrong with America today. Might vote Libertarian, but I ain’t voting for her.

I dislike Hillary and I like McCain, but for the reason of Supreme Court Justice appointments alone, I would hold my nose and vote for Hillary. I would hate to do it, but I don’t actually dislike her nearly as much as I disliked Kerry and I somehow voted for that loser. Of course he was running against a pair I hate and despise.

The sad part is McCain seems to be greener than the Clintons. I still might end up voting for McCain. When it comes down to it, the environment might trump the abortion debate.

It is worth noting that the VP choices will make a big difference. If Clinton picks Obama or Gore or McCain picked a real Theo-con it will make the choice easier. However if HRC picks Edwards and McCain picked Rudy or Mayor Bloomberg, I would vote McCain. Hell if McCain picked Bloomberg, Hillary could not get my vote.

Jim

Undecided.

Honor vs. policy.

It’s a harder decision than I thought.

Clinton. Three months ago I would have been almost as happy with her; now, not so much, but I’m certainly not going to vote for someone whose policies I dislike out of spite.

Same here.

Either Clinton or McCain would be the next President. That’s simple fact. You would be able to play a part in choosing the better (or, if you must, the less-bad) candidate, but yes, you could stay out. However …

Voting for anybody else because neither of them is pure or moral enough to match your lofty, naive freshman dorm bull session standards would be an act not of civic responsibility but of mere pique.

Did none of you learn anything from the results of the 2000 Nader campaign about withholding your vote from the real candidates? It does have an effect. It does matter. You have a responsibility. Accept it.

I’d abstain from the presidental part of the ticket and just vote on the rest.

I say this though knowing that either Democrat would take Illinois so my protest is largely toothless. I might feel differently if I was in a swing state.

Clinton.

Mark my words, if McCain were elected, he’d make Dick Cheney look like George H.W. Bush.

I have a responsibility to vote for the best future of America. I love my country way more than I love the government, and if the options are two different forms of America’s continued decline, then I will write in Obama. It’s the only way I’ll be able to sleep at night.

If it came down to Hillary Clinton or John McCain, I would sigh and very unenthusiastically vote for Hillary.

A Hillary Clinton presidency would probably be a disappointment. A John McCain presidency would almost certainly be an unmitigated disaster.

So Hillary, no question. And as the campaign wore on and McCain’s “centrist”, “Maverick” image got exposed for the bullshit it is, a lot of those who say now that they’d vote for Obama but not Hillary would decide to hold their noses and join me. (Probably less so among Dopers, but among more typically informed voters.)

(All hypothetical, of course. Obama’s gonna win.)

Hillary. Without a second thought. I don’t know where the idea of McCain as decent and honest comes from.

My suspicion is, when it comes down to it, if truly faced with the decision to have to choose between Hillary or McCain, most folks, even those who can’t stand her would resign themselves to voting for Hillary. Of the two, she’s the only real choice. As DoctorJ said above, a McCain presidency would be a disaster, and that simply cannot be allowed to happen.

Having said that, I remain hopeful Obama will get the nomination. I guess I’m still naive and idealistic enough to believe the good guys will win. Jeez, I need this to happen :frowning:

I guess I should clarify that by ‘folks’ in my post above I mean democrats.

Hillary, but I’d be a lot less excited about casting my vote. A year ago I fully expected to be supporting her, Obama really came out of nowhere. But man am I sick to death of the Clintons now.

I can’t imagine Gore, in a million years, signing on with Hillary. Has a VP ever served two different administrations? Never happen. I can’t see him joining up as Obama’s VP but that would be a compelling scenario.

Pretty much my thinking as well. I’d vote disappointment over disaster.

Yes. Hillary and then try to keep a close eye on her. If the VP was anyone I liked it might help. I’ve found that I believe in Hillary’s ability to at least somewhat capably run the country, but I have an overwhelming feeling that I don’t want to be associated with her - probably I would vote for her and then not admit it to anyone.

McCain appears to me to be constantly ready to lose his shit even now, and nobody is even bothering him yet. By the end of the general election campaign I’d hope that my hypothetical vote would not mean much anyway.
