There are numerous speculations among the various threads about who will choose Obama and who will choose McCain if the Presidential race comes down to these two.
So, for those who voted for Clinton in the primaries, if it comes to this, will you vote for Obama or McCain in November? Why?
I’d seriously consider McCain; because he’s been around and despite having some ideas I don’t agree with, I think inexperience with the right ideas can be as or more dangerous.
Beyond which, Obama strikes me as a self-satisfied jerk who would, ironically, breed as much or more rabid partisanship than the status quo by acting holier-than-thou.
I don’t know. I’ve never voted for a Republican for President before, so I can’t see myself voting for McCain. I don’t trust Obama, though. I might just leave that blank.
Come on now, you said you’d do your homework before posting in these types of threads… Unless you are simply being insulting towards Obama [which is fine you are allowed feelings] I’d make sure you had your fatcs straight, Obama has, is, and will continue to work on both sides of the tracks - far more than both Clinton and McCain combined.
Obama, with a great deal of trepidation about his ability not to get bogged down by GOP partisan trivia the way Bill Clinton did in his first year. We’ll have to hope he can learn, and become willing to fight. The fantasies we keep hearing about Congress looking like Pepperland after the Beatles drive off the Blue Meanies with the power of music are getting pretty old, but there does seem to be some substance underneath it, and his policies and attitudes do seem pretty much the same as Clinton’s.
McCain will spend his energies doing things that mainly we need desperately *not * to do.
Obama by miles & miles. He’s always been my second choice. Meanwhile I’d even hold my nose & vote for Edwards or Kucinich over McCain. I have nothing but admiration for Obama. Still rather have Clinton but sure, he’ll do.
His ludicrous foaming-at-the-mouth supporters on the other hand? Bite me.
An editorial in “The Arizona Republic” here said that exit polls showed 25% of Hillary voters would vote for McCain if Obama got the nomination. Are those numbers true? I wouldn’t have thought so, and it was only an editorial, but if they are true…wow.
I’m concerned about that as well. I’m afraid too many old school politicians from both parties will want to protect their power and influence and not accept a lot of the changes he wants to make. I’m in hope that their will be enough people insisting on changes to make it happen. We need to start throwing out some of the bought and paid for politicians from both parties and start over.
I’m also concerned that once elected his ego may get in the way. Power corrupts and all. Still, I’m willing to take the chance because I think the potential for more good remains with him.
To Obama’s ego - I see his taking a community organizer job after Harvard Law as an indicator that his ego is in check. As Potus, I think he would bring about a lot of change in terms of working with juggling the will of the dems, gops, and populace at large.
That’s my hope as well. I think he’ll bring encouragement to those in Congress who have been frustrated with the status quo. I think he’s smart enough to figure out how to sway people or expose those standing in the way to public scrutiny.
One thing he has mentioned that I think needs to be stressed more is that we {the citizens}need to stay involved after the election. We need to spend a little less time being entertained and more time keeping informed about what are leaders are doing. If they can’t or won’t support the necessary changes then give em the boot.
I like his concept of a more transparent government where the proper information is accessible to the public who votes and pays the tab. A must for a healthy democracy IMO. Having the information available won’t help if people aren’t using it. Campaign finance reform another key issue.
Still, being POTUS can be pretty heady and Obama is only human. We need to remain vigilant and let our voices be heard in order to help him fulfill what is only rhetoric now.
I agree - and one thing I continually visualize is watching him givehis inaugural speech, the cheers and jeers from the crowd. And listening to a State of the Union where I don’t have to squint at the TV just to listen to it. Obama is in a good spot, what is happening right now in the media is people are starting to realize Obama may very well be our next president, and that is turning a few heads. I do think - with zero cool aid in my system - that Obama will march right into the white house aherad of all the nay sayers and walk into an administration is desperate need of repair. I picture him as a turn your sleeves up and get down and dirty.
Dunno if I count as I didn’t vote in the Primary, but I would vote for a small soap dish before giving the Republicans another chance at the White House. And I lived in Arizona and think McCain ain’t fit for much.
I voted for Hillary in the primary because her stances on the issues are closest to mine, but in the general election I’m going to vote for McCain. To be fair, if Hillary won the Democratic nomination, I’d vote for McCain over her too.
