Repubs - does McCain "excite" you?

I’ve been a pretty strong Obama fan for some time. Tho I agree with him pretty much down the line on most issues, probably more important he strikes me as extremely intelligent, sincere, reasonable …
His choice of Biden doesn’t thrill me, but impresses me as at least adequate.
I also readily acknowledge that I am voting against much of the Republican platform, but this is separate from my feelings about Obama.

For those who expect to vote for McCain, I was wondering if you felt similarly about your candidate. What personal characteristics of McCain’s most earn your vote? Or, is your support based more on support for the party platform, opposition of Dem policies, opposition to Obama, or other factors?

My son in law was at home watching TV. He has identical twin boys - Madox and Saxton who will be 3 years old late October…

Madox was in the room with his dad. It happens TV was showing a clip of McCain giving a speech. Saxton strolled in, looked at the screen, and said. “Oh oh Madox, this is a scary movie!”

Honest.

I knd of agree.

Cute story! Are you a Republican, and is your son-in-law? I’m only asking for political reference in relation to the OP’s question.

I’m a Democrat as are the twins. Don’t know about my SIL

Well, my first impression on reading the title is, “I don’t swing that way, baby.”

Second impression, I’m not so excited about a McCain presidency as I am horrified by the prospect of an Obama one.

3 year olds are Democrats? What Congressional district do they vote in?

That’s how I (Democrat) felt in '04; not excited about JFK, but horrified about four more years of GWB.

ETA: The past four years have been every bit as bad as I’d feared, right down to the real estate nightmare I’m facing.

Why?

What about an Obama administration do I not want? Top of my list, left-wing Supreme Court Justices. That’s actually damn near a deal breaker for me. Beyond that, gun issues and foreign policy issues are high on the list. On a personal annoyance level I don’t want four years of being talked down to in the most condescending voice I’ve heard in ages. I also am absolutely dying to have a front row seat on this board to one of the greatest meltdowns in human history if McCain wins. Seriously, it’ll be fantabulous. But, that’s all probably fodder for other threads.

To sum up:

  1. You think he’ll appoint activist judges.
  2. You think somehow he’ll take your guns.
  3. You think he’ll … something vague about foreign policy …
  4. You think his voice is “condescending”.
  5. You really like pissing off liberals.

Thanks for answering.

I’m not a republican but my dad is; he seems not to be excited about McCain so much as excited by hating Obama.

How many here know obamas connection with a domestic terrorist by the name of “Weathermen group” a proffesor unrepentant terrorist ayers?
Better watch out for his watch dogs for that answer.
Do you know how he got into collage “Havard”?

Do you know what a community organizer does? How many stepped foreword to claim his nobal cause?

Scared of McCain? No not in the least.

When come back, bring cogency.

Not a great deal of excitement for McCain. He is steady in his word. Which some of his policys on Illegale aliens. Althou he has heard America on the issue he still remains for open boarders. He has said he will persue bills on this issue.

I wasnt going to vote for him. Indapendant. I am the wild card.

Then came Palin. The liberals nightmare on elms street. Hardly civil in thier attempts to topple the this woman. They attacked her kids then her husband. Even Obama openly called her a pig.
Now the story changed I seen this woman heard her and yeah I like her.
Hate politicians as it is buther I like.
The die hard communist have lost three of thier main attractions.

This one woman can distroy thier last hope to take power and Americas freedom.
Obama is toast…the base of conservatives have united.
Palin in four years I hope runs for the office of President. If she does she will take this nation by storm. Get ready for the new Regan…only a lot prettyer.

Cant fathom things?
I did bring congency.
More to the point I gave you an answer with questions to find the history of man you claim is great.
You accepted him without question. My my I am not surprised.
Look at what devotion given to that in which has not truth.
Yet find it easyer to dismiss the story only hinted rather then find that truth.

Who has the true disconnect here?

It is not my end.

Wow - I was expecting something a little different in terms of feedback. Thanks to those who responded.

I’m fine with someone voting for one candidate because they dislike the other. I guess I consider myself fortunate in that I not only support liberal policies pretty much across the board, but I also really like Obama as a candidate. As someone mentioned, last time around I was committed to voting Dem, but was less than thrilled w/ Kerry. I was wondering how many folk on the other side felt similarly about their candidate(s).

ISTM that when McCain was challenging Bush he had more of a rep as a “maverick” - often at odds with his own party. And he had some bipartisan cred and opposition to the staus quo. From this side of the aisle it seems as tho he’s kinda given up some of those to become more electible. Do Repubs feel that an entirely unfair characterizarion?

Here’s another question: assuming I am correct and many (most?) Repubs are not terribly thrilled about their candidate, but instead are voting a platform/ideology, are there any major candidates out there who DO excite you as an individual?

Is this a haiku?

Please, as respectfully as I can, I admonish you to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. If you will write in complete sentences, and actually elaborate on your posts, then I will take some time to respond to arguments that I believe are discredited, non-sensical, or simply inaccurate.

If you persist in writing in vague fragments, then I will leave this thread and not bother resonding. My opinions of your posts to this point notwithstanding, I don’t have the energy to pit you.

If I’d gone to Havad maybe I could understand your post.
FAIL

Not a Republican, but voting for McCain. Enthusiasm is lukewarm, at best.

The signal-to-noise ratio on his messaging is terrible. He stakes out contradictory positions on key issues (energy, the economy) from time-to-time and some of his shoot-from-the-hip responses are borderline incoherent.

But at least there is a demonstrable, general direction towards smaller government and lower taxes in his twenty-some-odd years in Congress. That fuzzy but discernable signal gets my vote. It will always get my vote. Hell, I’d probably vote for Clinton '96 (Bill, not Hillary) right now if he was running against Obama. At least he made moves to dismantle the welfare state and understood the importance of the credit markets to a degree not seen in a long while.

Obama seems like a decent person, but on too many occasions his warmed-over socialism and latent need to stoke class warfare seeps to the surface. No problem seems to be unsolvable, as long as we launch a government program from the Beltway to solve it, soak the rich to pay for it, throw up protectionist walls to trade and regulate the hell out of whatever else he thinks needs it. He already seems to be bending over backwards to support the labor unions.

By the way, I just joined so I could post on these forums. I enjoy lurking and reading these debates immensely. None of you know me, but I’ve been reading your stuff for years. Just couldn’t resist any longer.

Welcome to the board. Your post is eons ahead of blackcatrun’s so feel free to jump in anywhere.
