Obscure Archie Comics trivia

Um, err, uh… No, I don’t. And I hate the thought that Archie is making a subtle pun or reference that I don’t get.

The black Pussycat was named Valerie, by the way.

Nope, whatever happened to the project was that it was released and nobody went to see it. (Or at least, those who did go see it gave it lousy word of mouth). Every review I read made it sound as if they’d made it colossally dull – not even bad enough to be interesting. I knew it was a mistake that they tried to make it into a modern teen movie instead of really basing it on the cartoon. (I only knew Josie and the Pussycats from the cartoon, not the comic book.)

The Cabots and Lodges were two old Boston families, reeking with money, dahling, and of course very Brahim – subject of this little ditty:

Here’s to dear old Boston,
Home of the bean and the cod,
Where the Lodges talk only to Cabots,
And the Cabots talk only to God.

my favorite Archie trivia:

Jughead had a girlfriend: January McAndrews, Archie’s descendant from the 23rd or 24th century. This from the six-issue (as far as I can tell) “Jughead’s Time Police”, which was awesome but a bit inane.

Jughead was also Colonel (whatever . . . Perkins?), the hero who saved Riverdale in the civil war.

And his arch-rival was Morgana LeFay – actually a renegade time police woman turned evil.

He traveled through time using a special time-traveling beanie hat; yep, the same one he wears all the time.

I didn’t make this up; I have all six issues. You all suck for doubting that this actually happened.

Y’know how there are two L’il Archie artists, the great one and the other one? The great one’s Bolling. Ummmm…if the story features Little Ambrose, it’s likely Bolling, if it has that Maestro kid, it’s certainly Bolling. A trademark Bolling phrase is “Thassa joke!”

You’ve seen him if you’ve ever read a L’il Archie digest. He usually gets one reprint per digest.

Jayjay: Josie and the Pussycats, the movie? Five years in the making, five seconds in the theaters. And given what Archie Publications did to DeCarlo, I hope they lost a mint on it.

Everyone: I screwed up, and need to set the record straight ::Hangs head in shame:: Alexandra showed up in Josie before the Pussycats/Valerie, but after Pepper (sigh), Josie and Melody. She didn’t become a witch until the Pussycats started, though, but that’s not how she was when she first appeared.
