Obscure question of the week: what console game was this?

I’ve been wracking my brains trying to remember the name of this game.

It was sort of a space trading game, à la “Elite”, where (I think) you’d fly between different planets battling spacecraft and maybe trading. It was released in the 90’s on the Sega Megadrive (aka Genesis in the US). The specific thing I remember about it was this:

You had to collect some substance for fuel for your spaceship. At the end of the game, you learn that the fuel you have been using is actually a living creature!

Anyone know what this is?

Sounds like ‘Starflight’, which was a PC game that was adapted to the Sega Genesis (I think it was that console’s first 8 megabit cartridge).
