As the title states:
[Another] “Obscure question regarding a 1970s hobby magazine article”
Sometime in the early 1970s and somewhere under the Liberty Ave. El in Queens NY, his Lordship (aka Dad) brought little Sir Ray a hobby magazine (while her Ladyship - aka Mom - was at the dentist). I recall this magazine had many articles which interested me, and one article of which the title has been seared into my Brain (I think) for a long time - “Go Fly An Egg”, which concerned the activity of Egg Lofting with Model Rockets, basically launching an unboiled egg on a model rocket up to a decent height, and safely returning it to the ground.
Decades later, and the magazine being long gone, that phrase pops into my head, and I get to wondering what year that would have been - sadly, and in an rare occurrence for Google search nowadays: “No results found for “go fly an egg” model rocket”.
There is a slim chance that the magazine was Model Rocketry from 1969, although that would have been a bit early - however, it is possible that Dad just purchased the magazine for me without really worrying about the cover date (also, I thought it was a general aviation hobby magazine, but I could be very wrong).
I remember the article; it was published in Estes Industries’ Model Rocket News. I was a subscriber from 1969-1971, so it had to be in that time period.
WorldCat isn’t showing any libraries that own the book, but it may be available used. You may want to ask a library to seek a copy of the table of contents for you.
Thanks for the help.
When I saw Atomic Dogs links I was intrigued, as they included links to yearly indices of Model Rocket Magazine till '72 - sadly, while egg-lofting is mentioned, not the specific article I remember. Now, if I was still in college, I probably could ask the local library to check on Motorgirl’s suggestion, but not around these parts. It is possible that it was a general aviation hobby magazine, but I am afraid that except for a few items, my 4 decade old memories of what magazines I was reading is sadly lacking.
