Obscure TV shows

Oh my! So many shows that I remember!

First off, I cannot remember the name of the member who mentioned this, but “Once a Hero” is a show that remember also. I have some episodes on tape. I starred Robert Forster (Oscar nominee last year) and was too unusual to last on network TV for very long.

I am also a big fan of “Due South”, which is happily showing on TNT these days (right before ER) and I encourage everyone to check it out. Quirky sense of humor, to be sure!

“Misfits of Science” was great. Had Dean Martin’s son (who turned out to be pretty good in it.) Sadly, about a year later, Dean Jr. died in a plane crash. Sigh.

I remember Dave Allen! Man, he was GREAT! I still would like to see more of his comedy. And, did any of you see Paul Hogan (“Crocadile Dundee”) in his own comedy variety show? All I know is that it showed on a local station in LA (channel 9) way back in the late 70s. I’m sure it was syndicated nationwide, and it was very funny.

Other shows I also have seen - “Homefront” (have most of the episodes on tape) “Square Pegs”, “Automan”, “The Invisible Man” (w/ David McCallum) “VR5”, “Shadowchasers” (Trevor Eve,) and does anyone remember an OLD show (early 70s) called “The Young Rebels”? It had a young Louis Gosset Jr. in it. And, another favorite from that era - “Alias Smith and Jones” (w/ the late Pete Duel.) Also, remember the short-lived spin-off of the Michael Keaton film “Gung Ho”? It starred a pre-“Quantam Leap” Scott Bakula.

There are SO many other obscure shows I have in my scary and massive video collection, I’ll have to come back here and post more when I remember!

CowboyGreg: Would you believe I can still remember:

It’s about time, it’s about space,
About two men in the strangest place
It’s about time, it’s about flight,
‘Bout travellin’ faster than the speed of light!

Iiiit’s about two astronauts . . .
Iiiiit’s about their fate . . .
Iiit’s about a wooo-oo-man. . .
And her prehistoric mate!

It’s about time, etc. . . .
Someday someones’s going to clean my attic and find Judge Crater . . .

Oh yeah–Salvage One, in which Andy Griffith and Joel Higgins build a homemade spaceship and fly to the moon.

I forgot all about Battle of the Planets…until now! How about Ultraman? With the psychedelic intro graphic?

Anyone remember McDuff the Talking Dog, about a talking Sheepdog who could become invisible? Or a show called Waldo Kitty, which started off each episode with video of Waldo (a tabby) and Felicia (a white persian)and then went to cartoon as Waldo became Catzan, or the Lone Ranger?

Please someone say you remember these, no one I know believes me!

It was in the early 90’s…It had Bess Armstrong as a woman who married a man with a daughter(Shawnee Smith),and they didn’t get along. I cannot remember what it was called?Help?

Bess Armstrong was in “All is Forgiven.” I was the other person watching it.

“Square Pegs” - God, I loved that show. Me and all my girlfriends were in love with the new age/punk guy whose name I don’t even remember.

“G Force” - a closet favorite. I LOVED it, but all my friends thought it was silly. I think I was 20 before I found another female who liked sci-fi and fantasy. I spent a good part of my early teenage years concealing all my D&D, Star Wars, and such things from my friends.

Anyone remember a late night show on USA called Night Flight? My town was fairly late in getting MTV, and this was a great substitute. It would be on from like 10 pm to about 3 am on weekends, and had videos, strange movies, concert films, etc. on. Used to stay up all night watching it.

“All is Forgiven”. I was the third person watching it, and taping it. It also had Terrence Knox in it. He was also in “St Elsewhere”. Anyway, I have many episodes on tape. I just remembered that! Maybe I’ll have to pull them out and watch them now!

Did anyone else watch Nightmare Cafe? I would swear I’m the only one whose ever even heard of the show.

How about The Exile?

Johnny Slash (played by the late Merritt Buttrick - aka Captain Kirk’s son in Wrath of Khan) was the New Wave Punk character in Square Pegs.

Also, the blind Rex Smith was DareDevil, I think, based on the comic character. Though he was also in one that was Knight Rider meets Motorcycles called StreetHawk.

Probe starred Parker Stevenson as a genius who invented cool techy stuff but was a social embarrassment. It was fun.

Automan starred Desi Arnaz Jr as the scientist (TERRIBLE ACTOR!!!) and some other guy played Automan in his glowing blue suit. He was a computer generated superhero with a sidekick called Cursor who made vehicles and weapons for him. Especially cool was when the Car turned into a Helicopter mid-drive.

I remmeber automan…the guy programmed the automan and paid for it the first time he rode with him since the auto made 90 degree turns. I remember as a kid wondering how the guy did not fly through the side window and not die

Ahhh TV…the great liar

Re: Strange Luck

Good show - well written, well-acted. Got cut short before the storyline was really developed properly, left a lot of loose ends.

Hey, does anybody remember an early (Japanese?) animated show about a robot called Gigantor?

Heheh Gigantor?!?!

You mean the Flying Watertank? Ol Needlenose? Heck yea I remember Gigantor
I always wondered why the kid did not just take Gigantor and stomp some of those bullies

Wasn’t that the one with the Professor that was a spitting image for Wimpy?
