Has Anyone Seen This Show? (or, I Swear I'm Not Making This UP...)

Out of This World. It was an eighties sitcom that had a theme htat started with:

  • Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are
Or would you rather go to Earth
Out of This World is about this half-alien teenager named Evee who could freeze time by pressing her 2 index fingers together, among other powers, and talked to her dad, Troy, each episode through a crystal cube resting on one of its corners. Most of the series revolved around Evee abusing her powers to create all kinds of wacky mischief.
I promise you, this show existed, and no one believes me. It’s even in syndication, but whenever I look for it to prove it, I can’t find it.

Has anyone else seen this show?

OK, so you feel better (and I’m not at all happy that you reminded me of this show) but yes, it DOES exist. And yes, I actually watched a few episodes.

Thank you. Now I’m going to need another six months of therapy. :stuck_out_tongue:

Course I’ve seen it. It was a bloody jackal of an 80s sitcom.

If these cultural orangutans still don’t believe you, send them the following link.

That is very odd. I was just thinking of this show the other day and couldn’t come up with the name. I enjoyed it at the time, of course I was a lot younger and stupider then.

I remember watching the premeire episode, then I never saw it again. The talking to her dad through the cube was what jogged my memory.

I loved that show! Mostly because I had a crush on Evie. She was hot, or so I remember.

Don’t know that one, but as far as I know, I’m the only person who remembers the cartoon “Dodo, the Kid from Outer Space”.

TLB:

I remember “Dodo, the Kid from Outer Space” (And I’m sure that’s the spelling). It used to run about 7:30 AM on the NYC channel back in the 1960s.

Do YOU remember “Commander Bleep!”? Even earlier. How about “Space Angel”?

Not only do I remember it, but, being the absolute complete and total nerd that I was then (and still am), I thought “Holy crap! This is going to be so cool” and proceded to daydream about the show for a week until it premiered. It was 5th grade and I just kept thinking “You can stop time with your fingers? Aliens? Wow, I can’t wait to see this thing!” I don’t think I did any work that week.

Then I saw the show. siiiiiiiiigh…what a disappointment. But I still have the memories of what it could have been.

Anyone here remember Small Wonder? It was about a girl robot who talked in a complete monotone and did really stupid things that only a sitcom robot would do. Fortunately for her, no one seemed to catch on that she was extremely weird because the whole robot thing was supposed to be something only the family knew about. I even remember the theme song.

Oh my god! You beat me to it…yes, I remember Small Wonder. What an awful, awful show. Why did I watch it? In fact, if it were on in syndication still, I would probably watch it now too. There is something about that show. Hey, does anybody remember what robot V.I.C.I.'s initials stand for. I suppose I could do a web search, but that wouldn’t be much fun now would it.

If I’m not mistaken, both Small Wonder and Out of This World were produced by and first shown on Ted Turner’s WTBS, the “Superstation.” At least, that’s the only place I ever saw them.

Of course I remember Out of this World and Small Wonder! They were shown on the Fox station here in Chicago, back-to-back. And god did they suck.

Two shows that I remember that no one else seems to: on Fox - “The Adventures of Beans Baxter”? Or, show called “Probe” (hee hee) with Parker Stevenson as a crime-solving scientist (the crime-SOLVING boat) on ABC?

Grr – now I have the Small Wonder theme song floating through my head…

She’s fantastic
Made of plastic
Microchips here and there
She’s a smaaaaall wonder
Brings love and laughter everywhere!

I remember the show. I made sure when it was on I was in front of the TV. You just don’t see quality TV shows like that anymore.

I remember that show now! I just looked it up on IMDb to see when it ran (1987-1991, if you’re curious :)).

Now I have the theme song stuck in my head. Doo doo doo doo doo doodoo doooooooo …

cool beans! I’m not insane!

I did try to go to that link, Maeglin, but, after 15 minutes, all that loaded was a banner of a naked woman rubbing herself. Are you sure you linked the right site?

I seem to have this problem alot. I remember something I saw on TV as a child & everyone thinks I made it up. The worst one is “Simon In The Land Of Chalk Drawings”.
Everyone seems to think Mike Meyers made up that song about the boy who does drawings.

Wasn’t the dad on Small Wonder also the dad on Alf? Poor bastard. He got typecast as the father of horrendously obnoxious non-humans. Of course, so did Bob Sagat, but he deserved it.

Even as a small, dumb boy I hated Small Wonder. For some reason, I still saw several episodes. My favorite part was the little robot bratling’s ability to speed up film.

The dad on Alf is now on Norm…I pretty sure his name is Max Wright, but I’m too lazy to look it up right now. The dad on Small Wonder was someone else.
I remember really hating that little red-headed neighbor girl with the freckles and annoying voice on Small Wonder.

I have a show no one else remembers too. It was about 2 teenage space aliens. They were kind of Bill and Ted-like, and one of them played Boner (nice name ;)) on Growing Pains. They were always chasing women, but were also dumb as a box of rocks. I believe it was on UPN. Anyone???

Rose

They Came From Outer Space. The aliens were named Bo and Abe, and were played by Dean Cameron and Stuart Fratkin, respectively (God bless the idmb). They can also be seen in the sublime movie Ski School (that, I didn’t have to look up).

And yes, I’ve seen Out of This World, and immediately thought of Small Wonder as another horrendous sitcom just like it. Although Small Wonder was worse. It was, and remains, to my mind, the absolute worst show ever put on television.
