Obsidian's Kickstarter: Project Eternity Isometric RPG!

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I had to change my pants when I saw “From the creative minds who brought us… Arcanum”. Big fan of Planescape and the others too. Estimated delivery 2014? I’m counting down the hours…

Any bets on how high this will go?
[/QUOTE]

I’ll set the over-under at $2.2 million – any takers?

I donated. This is essentially the one game-related kickstarter that I would want the most.

Double Fine Adventures apparently made 1 million in the first 24 hours, and they made about 3½ million total. Something like 3-4 million is probably a fairly realistic estimate for the final sum for Project Eternity.

Only a fool would take the under. This is $3 million, minimum.

To quote Naked Gun, “I realize that…now…” I hope too many people don’t take the over bet, I’ll go busted.

$1.2 million so far and they’ve announced some stretch goals with more coming soon:

1.1 million, Base Goal – Achieved!
Base game includes three races, five classes, and five companions. We have ideas for these, but we want to hear your opinions on what you’d like to see. Stay tuned to Kickstarter, our website, and our forums to join in on the conversation.

1.4 million, New Playable Race, Class, and Companion!
Expands your options for character creation and adds a companion of the new class.

1.6 million, a Mac Version of Project Eternity and The Story Grows!
We’ve listened and we’ll make a Mac version of the game at this tier. We’re also going to add a new major storyline along with new quests, locations, NPCs, and unique loot (special histories everyone?).

1.8 million, New Playable Race, Class, and Companion!
The options grow for your main character and the roster of your motley crew expands with the addition of a new companion from the selected class.

2.0 million, Player House!
Get your own house in the game that you can customize, store equipment in, and where your companions hang out, or, as the elves say, “chillax”.

2.2 million, a new Region, a new Faction and another new Companion! And, dare we say it… ? LINUX!
Great news, everyone! For the Tarball Knights of Gzippia out there, we’ll be adding Linux support!
Also, the world of Project Eternity grows in a major way with the inclusion of a whole new faction and the territory it holds. This adds new NPCs, quests, magic items, and hours of gameplay. And yes, you got it, another companion.

2.4 million and beyond! Coming Soon!

We’ve been listening to your feedback, and have the following announcements:

DRM Free: We are looking into it! Please check back for updates.
Digital Only Tiers are coming!
PayPal is coming asap. Please be patient!
New $5k Tier. We are looking into a new $5k tier since it sold out so quickly! We are looking into equivalent alternatives.
Thank you fans!

Obsidian

Mac and Linux clients I think are going to bring in more money. They are a small subset of the PC gaming community, but they tend to spend a lot of money on kickstarters  And every one knows you can only own a Mac if you’re rich (joking).

I was sold and kicked in when I saw the list of previous games for the devs involved. If they can match the caliber of writing in the best of those, I’d buy it as a roguelike.

They also tend to pay more for Humble Bundles, especially Linux users. I think that’s partly because the Bundle and Kickstarter concepts are a pretty natural fit for the way FOSS folks think things should be done, and partly because it’s often an opportunity to “vote” for more Linux-compatible games.

Plus, they have more money to spare because they don’t pay exorbitant prices for software.

I figured I’d put this here, since Obsidian’s involved. Daily dose of rage:

Unnamed publisher(s) attempt to recruit Obsidian into exploiting Kickstarter

The latest update says they’ve decided to go ahead and commit to a Linux version. The next update should address what will be replacing it in the $2.2M stretch goal

Also they are using the Unity engine. I’ve played around with it and the IDE certainly seemed robust, and the licensing is affordable for a small project like this.

I belive Endless Space, the Space 4X game recently released was built using Unity. Does this mean their going 3D, or are they still doing a fully 2D engine?

So, everyone who pitched in will get an in house game? Or will they just be available for everyone to buy like in Oblivion/ Fallout?

I’m in for $25.

$20+ gets you at least one downloadable copy.

I mistyped. Does everyone who pitched in on Kickstarter get an in-game house? Or just get the ability to buy a house like in Elder Scrolls and Fallout?

The stretch goal explanation isn’t clear. Since it’s not tied to a funding level, I assume it means at $2mil they’re going to devote time to creating in-game housing, and you have to buy/earn/quest for it in-game.

Less than 48 hours to go. Lots of new funding levels, some a la carte addons (to get those, pick your pledge level, then pledge the amount more than that tier to cover your addon(s) - when it funds, they’ll e-mail you to ask what you want to do with the overage.

They’re over $3.1 mil at this point. They’re pledging to do an expansion, and beyond housing they’ve added - new region, new faction, translations into German/French/Spanish, new companion, new race (godlike), new difficulty/play modes, crafting, enchanting, barbarian and cipher classes, paladin and chanter classes, and will be hiring on George Ziets (from NWN 2 Mask of the Betrayer). Plus breaking the $3 mil barrier added strongholds.

I… kinda doubled my pledge.

I added enough for the expansion pack to mine.

Looks very interesting. I’m in.

And it looks like it’ll top 3.5 million shortly, unlocking the stretch goal of a second Big City. Nice.

And ka-ching, it just did! That was fast.
