Obsidian haven’t really released that much info about the game, but it’ll be an isometric old-school (ish) RPG that harkens back to the days of Baldur’s Gate. Written by some of the creative leads behind Planescape, Mask of the Betrayer, Fallout: New Vegas, and Alpha Protocol.
Since Obsidian is not bound to a publisher this time (going for the Kickstarter/self-funding approach), I’m really excited to see what they’re capable of with nobody else telling them what to do. The few glimpses of the fantasy world they’ve been showing look kind of generic, but these guys aren’t known for their world-building so much as their ability to create interesting characters and narrative arcs, and infuse depth into non-combat gameplay. One thing I’m quite happy about is their decision not to have voice-acting for everything, since that really restricts the writers’ ability to do their thing [dialogue has to be locked in pretty early in the process].
Has anyone else been following this?
