Obsidian working on Wheel of Time game, also Dungeon Siege 3

so Obsidian, the company famous for not finishing games, is working on two possibly excellent titles in addition to Fallout New Vegas.

Dungeon Siege 3, which is apparently being designed “under guidance from” Chris Taylor and,

a Wheel of Time game. However it seems the WoT game will be developed by Red Eagle Entertainment with help from Obsidian, so perhaps there’s hope for this on yet?

I’d still love to see a proper Song of Ice and Fire game. I remember there being a mod for NWN (2? I don’t remember) that was quite awesome.

Any thoughts?

How the hell does Dungeon Siege have 2 sequels?

Wheel of Time? I already played this one. For about ten minutes.

So a company famous for not finishing games is making a game based on a seemingly never-ending book series? Brilliant!

Only two books left in WoT, and one of them will be out this year. The author dying tends to set things back a bit, especially if it’s a long, drawn out death.

(No real input on the game…will wait and see. Never really liked Dungeon Siege though, so probably won’t get the 3rd iteration).

I found the first game to be amusing if simple. Never played the second, but yea

this is kinda the feeling I was going for. Though as an admitted Song of Ice and Fire fan I can’t really say much about the Jordan series. I’ve been waiting on Dance with Dragons for years and years.

Not terribly excited over a sequel for Dungeon Siege. The world is bland, the characters are bland, the lore is non-existent, the gameplay derivative…

(And why would any company do a second sequel?).

One is in development at Cyanide Studios (the team behind the recent Blood Bowl game).

interesting. Any word on what type of game it would be?

Nope. There was a press release announcing the game over a year ago and since then, bupkis.

Because they sell.

hmm, interesting. I actually prefer hearing bupkis about a game for years and years. Sorta the Nintendo/BioWare/Valve strategy of “when it’s almost done you’ll know what we’re doing.” Rather than the Obsidian/EA practice of hyping a game from the second you decide to make it and giving a release date that you’ll ultimately struggle to meet and screw up what could’ve been a good product

I think there was also a Dance of Ice and Fire mod for Medieval 2: Total War. Never tried it, though.

Obsidian doesn’t do much hype. There do, if anything, less than Bioware, and only a bit rmoe than Blizzard.
