These two posts this morning got me to go take a look at some outside links:
The first is from a thread on concentration camps in WWII and is about a Japanese diplomat who saved thousands of lives by issuing travel visas to Jews, and the second is the video of the cop macing those two girls who were just standing there.
It’s really hard to comprehend how two people - the cop and the diplomat - can be so different. How one can be such a great person and the other such a worthless piece of shit, not on the basis of any talent or gifts or intelligence or any of the measures that we’re so used to judging people by, but simply by the basis of their respect for human life and dignity.
It’s a fucked up world, and it’s hard to understand how one person ends up being the guy who saves thousands of lives and then doesn’t even tell his next door neighbors and how one person gets his kicks from using a position of authority to assault and terrorize young women. Unbelievable.
