Seriously irate at the protesters - it’s such a counterproductive move and inflames the situation - and relieved that in this instance the police had not assaulted them.
Is there a reason you asked? I mean, sometimes police officers do assault protesters without provocation, and sometimes protesters act like douches. Not being there, we’ve only got the news reports to go by.
What was that spray? Axe body spray? He clearly pulls something off his belt and sprays them in the face. Another officer who was holding the pen got a little on his eyes and he reacted as well. Was he faking?
Do you have some ‘evidence’ that it was fake? Why would you ask such a BS question?
Because, although I have no personal knowledge of the event, a friend of mine is a NYC police officer, and although HE has no personal knowledge of the event, he tells me that he was at an earlier protest (NYU in '09) in which that tactic was used by protesters.
Boy, Bricker, you really have a gift for coming up with interesting, if irrelevent, hypothetical questions. By which you probe the inherent bias and prejudice of the liberal mindset, how quickly we leap to conclusions based on flimsy evidence!
We used to do stuff like that all the time. Like, a couple hundred of us all light fat doobies at the same time, then take such a monster toke that it leaves us choking and coughing. What with the big cloud of smoke, we fooled people into believing that tear gas was being used on us!
I guess we should have known that, sooner or later, somebody would come along who was too smart to fall for our tricks. Luckily, back then, you hadn’t been born yet.
I mean, this isn’t even hearsay, Bricker, it’s hearsay about a *different protest *in a different year. (Same city, though, so I guess that cinches it.**)
So if someone told me of an instance where a woman accused a man of raping her, then it was found out she was lying, I should conclude that the next time I heard a woman accuse a man of rape, she must be lying also?
I’m not sure how that’s an answer to Zebra’s question, which was, “Why would you ask such a BS question?” It looks to me like a total non sequitur.
Yes, some protestors are dishonest. Was that your entire point? If so, I think it could have been made in a much more straightforward fashion. The most obvious reading of what you posted–especially given your history of posting gotchas or semigotchas in an effort to forestall goalpost-moves–is that you had evidence that these particular protestors were faking.
Well, I didn’t. I took is as a hypothetical diversion, strategy being “I don’t like the way this is going, perhaps if I change the subject.” Never expected any evidence.
I don’t get the hippie references. They are probably the bankers now. That was long ago. I guess Cartman is alive and well in the hearts and minds of some right wing dopers.
Lots of people are incensed because the bankers caused the financial mess and walked away free and got made whole through our tax money. Strange, but lots of people object to that.
Some people decided to try and make the bankers uncomfortable for what they did. They protested where they work , to make them understand that they hurt a lot of us and we are mad.
We used to have a right to protest . But the police have always worked for the rich. You know damn well they will hurt you if they can get away with it. That is why they arrest the camera people. Macing women, totally expected. Don’t let the cops catch you where there are no witnesses.
Guess I’m a doe-eyed sucker, because for a moment I really thought he was gonna pull out a primo “gotcha.” Is it bait-and-switch when the bait turns out to be chum?
