Oct. 16 is Dictionary Day: so what are you going to do to celebrate?

I heard a couple of days ago that Oct. 16 (today) is Dictionary Day. It marks the anniversary of Noah Webster’s birth, and we all know what he was famous for.

So what are you going to do to celebrate? I myself have no idea. Just another day to me, really.

Although… I was discussing this with Spoz on Monday, and since he knows I have a fairly huge vocabulary (some of which I never use, but oh well), he assumed that I’d throw a party. (that is, after laughing wildly at the idea of Dictionary Day) So I asked him what kind of things would happen at such a party. He thought everyone would get really drunk and look up rude words. I don’t know about that one…

He also gave me a test of a dictionary’s relevance, and I think I should include it (if only for laughs):

So if you’re sort of a word fanatic like I fancy myself to be (well, not really), what are you going to do today? I might go buy a dictionary, even. (using what money? hahaha)

never has the current edition of my sig been more appropirate in a weird way…

P.S. My friend Eric once said that my vocabulary was too big for him. What a time I had in summer 2001 using great big words on him! (such as “castigate,” “capacious,” and others) Guess it comes from reading a lot.

Why, I will maffick with a jeroboam of kir!

Won’t you join me?

Perhaps a bit of persiflage?

Iteki, I would join you… but I shouldn’t drink too much alcohol. Comes with being Asian, you know.

FCM, definitely! I’m all about that, you know.

I think I’ll wait 'till they get around to commemorating Dr. Samuel Johnson, thanks.

I think I’ll take my OED to lunch, then a movie.

Tonight, we’ll get the extended family (Merriam-Webster, Lighter, Mathews, Chambers, etc.) together and have a party. These guys know how to party! Then hit the hay around 9:30.

Oh, did I mention that we hired a “librarian-stripper” for entertainment?

I love my Canadian Oxford.

Page heading, p. 524:

“fist-fucking”.
