My sister in law and her husband do some sort of ayurvedic diet thing where they do not eat any sort of alliums or root veggies. I can see onions and garlic falling in that category, but what about chives - while there is a bulb, you normally snip the leaves and only use the leaves, leaving the bulb to regenerate more leaves.
What is substantially different about celery, where the root part is called celeriac and not eaten, and the stalks which are, and chives where again the root ball/bulb is not being eaten and the leaves are? You could make a claim that since everything has roots underground, they should be avoided.
Or am I stupid for wondering?
