Odd SDMB/Browser Behavior

Mods: I’m not sure if this belongs in ATMB or GQ, feel free to move.

I’ve been having this odd problem when browsing the boards that has me stumped. When I browse at home (WinME, IE6, Norton AV, 56K, usually after dinner/board really busy), my typical method is to open a forum then open any threads I want to read in a new window (right click - open link in new window). Thus I can continue browsing the forum while other threads are opening in the background.

Frequently, but especially when the board seems really slow, as one of the other windows seems about to load, the forum window suddenly jumps to a “No forum/thread specified. Please contact whoever if you feel it wasn’t your fault. Neener-Neener” window.

If I hit the back key, it usually brings me back to where I was. This also happens if I’m browsing a forum and try to go to the next page.

I’m not sure if this is a purely IE phenomenon (I’ve never tried it with Netscape), but I think it happened back when I had IE5.5 too. It seems to happen more often now with the new vB software, but that may just be a function of board speed.

It doesn’t happen when I browse at work (NT4, IE5.5, LAN), but the boards never seem quite as busy.

Any thoughts?

I would think that the main window is trying to refresh the forum list due to some action you took in that window, (perhaps even opening a link in a new window causes the main forum window to try to redisplay something) and since the server is busy it is unable to send you the new page you requested.
