Today, I was riding my Kawasaki KLR 650 in Northern NJ- Boonton to be exact, and I saw a Tomos Targa moped. I don’t remember the color, but it was either red or blue. Normally, I’d remember the color, but what overshadowed everything else was that the moped had a neon tube on the rear swingarm. It was a pinkish purple UV-type lamp about 10-12 inches long. The bike looked like it had one of those BiTurbo exhausts as well.
Sure it was just a moped, but it was PIMPED out!
I also saw a guy who had nearly covered the rear half of his car with tourism and US Marines stickers, but that’s nowhere near as cool as the pimped out moped.
When I lived in the DE/NJ/PA area, there was a guy with a camoflage van with missles (I assume fake) on the roof. I’d see him every month or so. I also saw a car once that had all of the bodywork done in plywood while driving in the same area.
Anyone else seen anything on the road recently that qualifies as “odd”?
When I was a kid I saw a big bus (BlueBird) painted in psychedelic colors with a VW Minibus welded to the top of the bus (to create a second story) and a wooden cabin welded to the top of the Minubus to create a third room all the way up above. I left a note on the door asking them to call me so I could ask them about it…a woman did eventually call. I can’t remember anything about the conversation except for the fact that she lived in it.
There is a Geo Metro here chopped into a convertible, with a black-and-flame paint job and stack exhaust pipes coming up the sides.
Here in Surrey I frequently see a really odd one. It’s a pink car, species unknown, with dolls and other objects glued to it. Weird.
Across the river in New Westminster, on Royal Avenue, there parks a van, also species unknown, that has a unique paint job. It looks like someone took squirt bottles, the sort you get ketchup in, and coated the van with whatever random paint they had handy. The predominant colours are yellow and orange. I saw that one again just this afternoon.
When I was living in Montreal I once saw a stretch original VW Beetle. That one definitely attracted some attention, especially since from the noises it was making it still had the original engine in there.
Fairly close to zoogirl’s neck of the woods, in White Rock, there were a couple of interesting cars. Both were those giant '70s land yachts. One of them, that I haven’t seen in years, was painted in kind of a jungle motif, with a nice tidy line of plastic dinosaurs glued the whole length of the car running right up the middle. The other one, which may even still be on the road, is completely covered in sea shells and starfish, embedded in this thick black…well, stuff is the best word I can come up with. It looks really cool from a distance, but I once got close to it when it was parked in the sun on a hot summer day and, well, they didn’t do too good a job of cleaning those sea shells.
In my town, there is a Karman Ghia (im sure I spelled that wrong) painted in the standard “black and white”/“cop” paint scheme, with a gold star painted on either door (BTW, the whole car is hand painted with a brush). underneath the gold star is painted “The Man”.
