Odder Odd Rods, Garbage Pail Kids, etc

An afterthought from a Thursday NY minidopefest.

How many of you grew up buying flat bubble gum in little packages that included Odder Odd Rod cards?

Or, for those of you who came down the pike just a little bit later, did you collect Garbage Pail Kids?

Do you have old issues of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers?
for the rest of you: what the heck’s wrong with you, that you should lack culture!??!!

I had friends who collected Garbage Pail Kids.

I was scared of them, myself. I don’t know why.

Feh. All are pretenders to the throne of Wacky Packages.

Well, I have a box of GPK wax packs sitting in my closet as we speak. I loved those things (and still do).

a full perfect first series collection of garbage pail kids is worth $250

Anything lower than that is like 10 bucks or less Although this might have changed

I collected Garbage Pail Kids. My dad collected The Furry Freak Brothers.

Anyone collect Muscles?

Omigosh, I’m glad someone mentioned M.U.S.C.L.E. Things! I was in a Japanese toy store yesterday (Toy Tokyo in NYC) and they had a bucket of — get this — M.U.S.C.L.E. Men… in the shape of Transformers!!! Sweet baby Jesus, how I want these!

$125 for the little bucket. If anyone is wondering what to get ol’ Pezwookiee for Christmas this year…

Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere!

Please disregard that last M.U.S.C.L.E. link. The link that I meant to use was:

Oh, god, that is SO what I didn’t want to hear.

I had two or three complete sets of the first series. All in perfect condition

And then one day, my mother trashed my entire collection. She thought they were horrible things.

Thanks bunches, Mom. :frowning:

I had a full set of one series, either the first or the second. I wonder what happened to them.

I have a shitload of GPK still in a box at my parents house. I think I have the entire first set except the first card because when I was younger I used to peel the stickers off and stick them on stuff…boy was I stupid

I have 2 M.U.S.C.L.E.s sitting on top of my computer right now.

I miss my favorite one…he was smaller than all the others and had NICO written across his chest.

Are you sure those weren’t the Transformers decoys (little rubber Transformers figures) that were given away for free by Hasbro for a while?

Check out http://www.protoformproject.com/dvd/kitbash/decoys.html for pictures of the Transformers decoys.

HOLY SHIT!!! I haven’t thought of M.U.S.C.L.E. men in 15 years. I remember having a bunch of them. Wasn’t it short lived?

Was it… Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere?

Yeah, I remember Wacky Packages and the Freak Brothers. Not the Odder Odd Rods, though. The artwork appears to be that of a MAD artist, name of Davis. Can’t remember his first name at the moment and the MAD website isn’t any help.

Any collectors of the Odder Odd Rod series who were also avid readers of CARtoons Magazine?

Have a good friend who collected both GPK and Muscle men… I wasn’t a fan of the GPK (too wierd or something), but the muscle men were cool. We’d pile 'em all up and then take turns picking one at a time and each build up a little army. It was so great!

The GPK link in the OP doesn’t seem to be working properly. Here’s a better one.

Ohhh, yes. Garbage Pail Kids. In fact one of my most poignant childhood memories is of my mum driving us round an unusually high number of shops to try and find them so we could join the in-crowd at school. Didn’t work…
The smell of that kind of bubblegum still sends me back there. Most of the Kids weren’t all that bad, nothing like as horrible as Madballs - which I also collected because everyone else did. Ah, shoot, y’got me fillin’ up now…
