Oddities of now and then

I’ve just been watching The Winslow Boy, set in England shortly before WWI. The film was made in 1948.

I was rather astonished by the presentation of the personal histories of the two sons. The studious “successful” son was in the navy. The partying frat boy-type son had failed to make it into the navy and had to settle for Oxford (which cost 200 pounds per year, according to the flick). And the Oxford student was 19, the navy kid was 12.

Go figure.
