Ode to Little Nemo

I see that our own Little Nemo is being celebrated on Google today.
Or not.

Don’t miss today’s Google Doodle honoring the 107th anniversary of the innovative comic strip “Little Nemo in Slumberland” by Winsor McCay. It’s excellent!

I saw that and immediately thought, 'isn’t there a Doper who calls himself Little Nemo?

Why yes, yes there is.

It’s pretty cool, especially at the point where it uses the screen to scroll to produce animation.

It’s about time.

I hope it will lead people to discover McCay’s amazing and beautiful work.

Great stuff. I’m a big fan of McCay, and have collections of his stuff.

McCay also made some of the very first animated cartoons, and himself animated Little Nemo. I have a copy on DVD. They’ve brightened up the faded color (McCay’s cartoons were hand-colored), and it looks amazingly good and modern.

I’m choosing to believe it is a tribute to me.

Best doodle ever.

I hate to say this, but Clothahump’s thread had a better title.

Merged threads.

My first thought was oh good, now maybe people will stop confusing him with a fish.

As do we all, my friend!

I must say you’re cuter than I pictured.

I don’t know the exact date Little Nemo was first printed, but he’s about the same age as my grandmother, who, as I write, is about two months short of her 108th birthday.

Today, 107 years ago per Google.

Some of the news stories seemingly link to furtherimagesby google that reference this work.

Does anyone know how to see these in context?

Click on the pullcord. Does Google save these anywhere?

Oh! I say, Flip! What a dream! No more blancmange and sardine sandwiches before bed tonight!

Thank you for that link. I had never seen that animation. McCay was an astonishing draftsman as well as a brilliantly imaginative artist.
