Thousands of Animation Cels Coming up for Auction

Here.

*Peanuts cels! Yellow Submarine!

Winsor McKay
cels!

It makes me want to cry, because I have absolutely no business spending any money on any of this.

Jeez, how much do you think those will go for? That clip showing the Top 10 lots up for auction was just incredible. I think I have a soft spot for the original production cel for The Grinch, where’s he’s looking down, over the front of his sleigh…and signed by Chuck Jones himself…covet!

?

Why are these coming up now? Did a collector die, or suddenly decide he needs money?

Animation cels have long been available. Gallery Lainzberg has been selling them for decades. I got my Bugs Bunny cel (from A Connecticut Rabbit) from them.

My first reaction to “Windsor McKay cels” is “McKay didn’t use cels – he drew on rice paper on cardboard”. Which he did, at first. But if you look at his later cartoons, like The Giant Pet, he’s undoubtedly using cels. I’ve never even seen a McKay cel, though. Nor a picture of one.

I call your pedantism.

It’s **Winsor **McKay.

OK, they’re drawings (except the *Lusitania *cel, which isn’t very interesting).

I don’t know the source of the stuff for this auction.

There have definitely been some cels that made me lust - originals from absolutely iconic moments and sometimes with the original backgrounds.

I do have a lovely triple, though - a Chuck Jones drawing, the magazine cover it was drawn for, and a sericel that was later released of the same image. All signed.

Ooh, some good stuff there.

I have a pencil sketch (and reproduction cel) from How the Grinch Stole Christmas; one of my treasures.

You guys are killing me. Cool stuff.
