How is reporting a post “Junior Modding”? It’s sort of the antithesis of Junior Modding, isn’t it? It’s letting the mods know there is something to mod (it’s not like we can tell them to warn or ban or anything, but to let them know they might need to decide whether or not action might be needed about something), rather than stepping in and being all, “Um, guys, take it to the Pit, ok? IANAMod, of course!” about it.
Reporting a post isn’t junior modding unless you then post, “Post reported”, so everybody knows you did it.
Ah. I suppose something like a spam OP by a new guest would be excepted, then? Something that’s pretty obviously about to be deleted, I will sometimes post “Reported post” just so the mods aren’t bothered with 100 identical Report Post emails. Should I cut that out? (In your humble opinion, of course. I know YANAMod.)
I’ve seen this before, and thought it came off rather helpful. Especially in the cases of noticing spam.
Now I can simply move along. Sure I guess some of us have varying degrees of being annoyed by Jr. Modding, but I rather like that. It means I have four less mouse clicks to make in order to keep this place cleaned up. Basically, what **WhyNot ** said.
DDG, can you show us an example of annoying “reported” instances? (Well, aside from mine a couple posts up north please)
I think if you think someone is being a jerk or a troll, a “Post reported” is just going to fan the flames.

Giraffe, you’re making this more complicated than it needs to be. If someone complains that someone else is making an insulting veiled reference, then obviously they did get the reference. If only two people on this board speak Tamil, and one of them calls the other shit-for-brains in Tamil, it’s an insult.

‘Compile stats’ is an interesting interpretation of my post. You don’t have to compile stats to make an observation.
I used words like noticed & guessing.
I report spam when I see it.
If a poster has in a post that they need a Mod to move a thread, fix a title or tag, or close a thread, I hit report a post for the poster.
I more rarely report when I see a thread that is in the wrong forum. Some are easy to see.
I report a few of my many mistakes when it really blows the meaning or was in the wrong thread. The 5 minute edit window has really helped with these.
I have in the past occasionally reported trolling activities.
El Cid & Catsix came up with strange arguments that could not be gleaned from the post you linked to or my posts in this thread. Further El Cid somehow thinks that when people report posts it makes the Mod’s job harder. That has been posted many times to the contrary on this board. You know it, I know it and most regular posters know it. I am surprised El Cid does not.
This still looks like nothing but shit-stirring and I don’t think your link proves any point in favor of El Cid.

People were so darn confused about how El Cid could know so I pointed out the best example where you announce that you report posts a lot for a variety of reasons to a variety of mods. Just because that twit bbs2k tried to make this a snarky back and forth between us doesn’t mean you have to take the bait.

Stats? What stats? I’ve “noticed” that only some mods reply too. 'Cause I have an email address book with a few mods emails in it (from when they emailed me) and not all of them. Hardly rigorous compiling going on.
As I tell my kids: there’s a difference between alerting and tattling. Alerting is what you do when there might be a violation of State or Mom law or to keep someone safe. Tattling is what you do to get someone in trouble. It seems like** El Cid** thinks What Exit? is tattling - is there any evidence of that?

Not emailing a reply to a report about spam =/= making a mod’s job harder. Where do you get this stuff?
FTR, the only replies I’ve ever gotten to reporting a post are either thanks or explanations for why the mod doesn’t think action is needed - spam is spam is spam and needs no discussion. While I appreciate the feedback emails, they’re not needed, and if taking the time to reply to my report is a burden, I’d hope they wouldn’t do it.

When mods gets a bunch of reports of spam, they don’t bother replying to the sender with an Email does not equal “Makes their job harder”.
We have already had two moderators in this thread say otherwise.
