Ladles and Jellyspoons-
After darn near a year in the Magic Kingdom, I am taking five weeks off. A couple of weeks at home in Maryland, then down to Guadalajara. I want to look at retirement properties and get a Hard Rock Cafe shirt to add to my collection.
I will be there from 12 to 19 October.
Anyone want to recommend things to do and places to see in Mexico’s second-largest city? Any Dopers live there?
I will be living at my Mother’s house in Frederick in the best Cliff Clayborne fashion. I have to stay there as it is the only US address Amazon has for me.
Oh I’m so envious! I was trying to plan a trip to Puerto Vallarta (where I used to live) and Guadalajara for last week, but my husband couldn’t get that week off work, so we had to scrap it.
You will love Guadalajara! I know it might sound cheesy, but I’d highly recommend taking one of the “city tours.” Not only do you get to see so much of the beauty and the history of Guadalajara, but you get the inside scoop and details that make seeing it so much more rich.
For dining, don’t miss a Swiss restaurant called Luscherly at Duque de Rivas 35. The food is incredible (needless to say the fondue is amazing, but their trout almondine was to die for!) and the atmosphere is charming.
Also of interest are the communities of Chapala and Ajijic, especially if you’re considering retiring there, as that was the original purpose of establishment of Ajijic.
