This is exactly what she is (or has been) good at and is by far the biggest reason she is where she is today. She’s an extremely hard-working, money-raising machine and the path to modern politics is paved with gold.
You can argue with perfectly reasonable justification that she is not the sort of Majority Leader we need in this day and age. But it the thing even her enemies give her credit for and is the explanation for why she hasn’t been ousted. She is savvy in terms of intra-party political maneuvering and she has enormous political capital from the money she has generated for the party.
And the FBI should be investigating, too. The problem is that the Bill Barr lackey running the place has said he really doesn’t see a clear connection between the insurrection and Trump’s election loss, and he referred to the entire Stop The Steal movement and election denial as “scattered online chatter”.
He made these remarks at a hearing in June 2020. I’m surprised they weren’t reported, but I was watching the hearing and I looked up the transcript after to make sure I didn’t misunderstand. It’s a disgrace
Holy fuck! Are they trying to lose the midterms for the Democrats? Are they trying to lose the midterms for the Republicans? Are they trying to GIVE the midterms to the Democrats?? Or the Republicans?
Have the Republicans cleared this with their commander Putin?
I don’t think you quite get my point, which was that IMO going to Ukraine suggests lack of attention to the day to day bread and butter issues that the voters face. Whether she included Republicans in the group was mostly irrelevant.
But it makes no difference, now that a group of Republican legislators have mounted their own trip to Ukraine. My point has therefore become moot.
ETA: I do think that your average drifting-in-the-wind undecided voter, who could go either way, or just not vote at all, could switch their vote over what seems to be a trivial matter. It’s in the nature of being undecided; it takes little to tip the balance either way.
If anything, this is the McConnellites seeking to make clear they are not on the side of the Isolationists. So they must feel that no, paying attention to Ukraine is not something that tips votes adversely.
This probably had been planned and set up counting on the passage of the aid bill so they could arrive with it in hand for Zelensky, until Random Paul decided not to play nice.
I’m genuinely curious about those who say the Democrats are doing things that will make them lose in certain areas of the country, said areas which happen to be solidly red areas. Where do you think those Democratic Party voters are going to appear from? Certain areas of the country are solidly red, solidly as in 100%. There just aren’t any people there to vote against the Republicans.
I just can’t shake the notion that if they could only heed the warning that voting for a Republican is a sin, everything would turn out okay on Election Day.
I don’t think there’s any place that’s more than 80% Republican or so, and that only if you look down at the county level. There are Democrats everywhere.
Though it is certainly true that there are some places where Republicans have a strong enough majority that the chances of a Republican winning election are so close to 100% as to not bother about the difference.
